Nintendo Says They "Over-Delivered" the Switch at Launch

3.7
The Nintendo Switch has had no problem at all flying off of shelves since its phenomenal release, but even though Nintendo fans have had a pretty hard getting their hands on the console post-release, Nintendo says that the launch still exceeded their expectations.

Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime spoke to Mashable about the crazy popular console while acknowledging that plenty of gamers, even well-known game developers and other professionals, are struggling to find a Switch. Fils-Aime said that they actually produced more units than analysts initially expected them to sell, so as far as the launch is concerned, they “over delivered” on the console’s stock.

“We actually sold through almost 2.8 million units, so we dramatically over delivered,” Fils-Aime told Mashable. “And yet, demand outpaces supply.”

Fils-Aime also spoke a bit more about that demand, particularly about the feedback from Nintendo fans that indicated finding a Switch was no small task. Their responses have been heard, and Nintendo has big plans to sell even more Switches thanks to an increased level of production.

“So what do some of the consumers on Reddit say?” Fils-Aime asked. “‘Gosh, Nintendo, if you would’ve made more you would’ve sold more.’ Well, we did make more! And certainly we’re on a pace to supply in the current fiscal year 10 million units.”

But as far as future plans are concerned, Fils-Aime also brought up Nintendo’s tendency to keep info about upcoming projects “close to the vest,” saying that Nintendo fans understand why they prefer to do that.

“We love to surprise people," Fils-Aime said. "We also believe that the consumer should have the information when they're ready to act on it. Telling someone about a game that's four of five, six years away from actually launching? Just doesn't make a ton of sense to us. But sharing information in order to frame how we are looking at a franchise, looking at an IP, that's something we do very thoughtfully."

The Nintendo Switch still has a ways to go before hitting the 10 million projected unit sales, but considering how badly people want the console, it seems like a pretty realistic number.

RepBandit Im glad they over delivered because it took me a couple months to get ahold of one. They were sold out everywhere and when they got them in they sold, same day. I personally enjoy the console with my kids

There was a very high demand at launch at it seems its gonna grow again over the holidays also.

I don't see what the big deal is with this console, I personally hate it.

Thats a good thing that they did this, its better to be over stocked then having it be in demand and not have any.

Craig That's never a bad thing tho. Better then running out

I agree will have to get one of these at some point.
I would never user use one. I hate playing on handheld devices at the best of times.

I would personally rather be selling more consoles that I could make than not selling any lol
