PewDiePie Issues Video Apology for Racial Slur

4.4
YouTube celebrity PewDiePie has issued a formal apology for his use of a racial slur during a recent livestream that sparked outrage within large segments of the gaming community, including some developers of the games he streams.

In a new video titled My Response, PewDiePie (aka Felix Kjellberg) said that his use of the word during a round of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds was unacceptable. "I'm disappointed in myself because it seems like I've learned nothing from all these past controversies. And it's not that I think I can say or do whatever I want and get away with it. That's not it at all. I'm just an idiot. But that doesn't make what I said or how I said it okay. It was not okay."

His "past controversies" include the use of anti-Semitic comments and Nazi imagery in some videos, prompting Disney to cut off ties with him back in February. After the incidents in Charlottesville, Va., he had said he would not make any more comments about Nazis or Jewish individuals, particularly since the alt-right and fascist sympathizers had started to call him one of their own.

"I'm really sorry if I offended, hurt or disappointed anyone with all of this," Kjellberg said. "Being in the position I am, I should know better. I know I can't keep messing up like this. I owe it to my audience and to myself to do better than this because I know I'm better than this. I really want to improve myself and better myself, not just for me, but for anyone who looks up to me or anyone who's influenced by me. That's how I want to move forward away from this."

This guy gives a new definition to the word moron...

Whoever defends him of using the racial slur he used and considering it "just a word", you're an idiot and should never log on to TTG again.

Anywho, he apologized, good for him. The damage is already done.

I don't get it. The vast majority of the people hating on him for using this word probably have no issue when he uses fa/ggot or something like that even though it is exactly the same. There is a difference to saying the word and saying the word at someone in a racial way. Pewdiepie isn't racist and he has never done anything that is racist. Yea he used a racial slur but he didn't use it in the way a real racist would. He didn't say whites are the best or anything, just used a word which is commonly used by a lot of people. Maybe he listens to rap a lot and because of that the word is just in his vocabulary. Also, people seem to be mad he said it with a hard R as opposed to using A at the end as if that makes any difference.

AshR6 for people saying he was in a moment you're dumb. I get in hectic moments all the time but you don't see me saying any racial slur's. The fact that he said is so calmly means he probably uses it normally off camera & for people saying it's just a word. Try being black and every time you hear the N word it's used in a disrespectful way. Out of all the stuff he could've said he picks that word. You don't see me getting mad at a game & using a racial slur. Guaranteed if I was screaming and called a racial slur they would've been me and guaranteed if I was screaming and called a racial slur they would've been me and never let me stream again.

How about not getting offended over a word?
You really can't make the assumption that PewDiePie uses the N word openly off camera. That is absurd to assume.
People like you only add to the problem. It is a word, get over it. Ever here of "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me"?
It's people like you that think you have to destroy someone's career over using a word that still give that word any meaning.
Should he have used it? No. Should we judge him for you using it? No. Is he racist for using it? No.
Words can hurt, no matter who you are. Everyone has had words hurt them, including you.

Well Felix said what he did was wrong and definitely not okay and that he has no excuse for it and it was in the heat of the moment.

This is about as good as an apology can get. He didn't try and say "Oh my friends use to say it all the time because we thought it meant homie or friend". He said he **** up and that there is no excuse.

I don't think this whole ordeal was out-of-hand, I think this is good for Pewds. He knows how many eyes are on him so now he will only be more careful from hear on out.

Pretty nice apology video. Only time will tell if he meant it or not though. I actually hope he does grow as a person after this. He has a large base. Would be great if he was more aware of his actions and words. Always strive to be better.

There's a key difference between saying the word 'n*gger' on a stream and actually being racist.

I mutter all kinds of offensive shit to myself when getting angry in games. That doesn't mean I'm literally homophobic/racist/whatever..
