PewDiePie Issues Video Apology for Racial Slur

4.4
YouTube celebrity PewDiePie has issued a formal apology for his use of a racial slur during a recent livestream that sparked outrage within large segments of the gaming community, including some developers of the games he streams.

In a new video titled My Response, PewDiePie (aka Felix Kjellberg) said that his use of the word during a round of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds was unacceptable. "I'm disappointed in myself because it seems like I've learned nothing from all these past controversies. And it's not that I think I can say or do whatever I want and get away with it. That's not it at all. I'm just an idiot. But that doesn't make what I said or how I said it okay. It was not okay."

His "past controversies" include the use of anti-Semitic comments and Nazi imagery in some videos, prompting Disney to cut off ties with him back in February. After the incidents in Charlottesville, Va., he had said he would not make any more comments about Nazis or Jewish individuals, particularly since the alt-right and fascist sympathizers had started to call him one of their own.

"I'm really sorry if I offended, hurt or disappointed anyone with all of this," Kjellberg said. "Being in the position I am, I should know better. I know I can't keep messing up like this. I owe it to my audience and to myself to do better than this because I know I'm better than this. I really want to improve myself and better myself, not just for me, but for anyone who looks up to me or anyone who's influenced by me. That's how I want to move forward away from this."

& for people saying it's just a word. Try being black and every time you hear the N word it's used in a disrespectful way. Out of all the stuff he could've said he picks that word. You don't see me getting mad at a game & using a racial slur. Guaranteed if I was screaming and called a racial slur they would've been me and guaranteed if I was screaming and called a racial slur they would've been me and never let me stream again.

for people saying he was in a moment you're dumb. I get in hectic moments all the time but you don't see me saying any racial slur's. The fact that he said is so calmly means he probably uses it normally off camera

I don't believe he is racist just got into a game and said a bad word. Good to see him apologize for his actions though.

It isn't going to stop him from making controversial comments.

Whether it was blown out of proportion or not, overreaction or not, he's got big name sponsors and million of fans.. Saying controversial things, doing controversial things with so many fans and sponsors is leading to career suicide. Sponsors will withdraw, he will lose money and lose fans. He makes his living off of playing games and YouTube so he can't ever complain if he does end up in a risky position.

He was in the moment when he said it don't care what anyone has to say he obviously didn't mean it this just got blew way out but i guess its expected with that level of fame.

I don't see why this was even needed - a small thing blown out of proportion imo.
