Latest Xbox One update causing some consoles to factory reset

3.9
According to multiple threads on Reddit, Xbox One consoles are being factory reset, apparently due to the latest Xbox One update. This Xbox One update bug does not appear to affect anyone receiving updates in the Xbox Insider Program, just regular updates to Xbox One. Usually, you’d think it’d be the other way around.

More Reddit posts are popping up complaining about the factory reset problem, even after recently playing games on their Xbox One. Another Redditor even got his 12-month Xbox Live Gold subscription cancelled too (Although he bought his Xbox Live subscription from a third-party seller). No word from anyone else on Reddit if their Xbox Live subscriptions purchased through Microsoft have been cancelled too.

Microsoft has yet to release an official statement on the issue or when an Xbox One update will come to fix the issue. On Twitter, there appears to be flurry of tweets to Xbox Support, but users are receiving generic replies while Microsoft figures out the precise problem.

Nothing like a good old fashioned OS glitch...

Daniel My brother had to factory reset because his account disappeared off his Xbox then when he tried downloading it it wouldn't let him download accounts only create a new one, not sure if this is anything to do with this news post but it sucked for him having to download things again.

Tell him to create a new account and then add his original one. That worked for me :)

If you have an external HDD and all of your games on it, you're safe, just do the set up all over, download your profile and go on about your business. I have a external HDD and did those steps and didn't have to re-download my games/apps. If you DON'T have a external HDD and you get this issue, chances are you WILL have to re-download all of your stuff. This was told to me buy MS support chat this morning (Didn't save the chat sorry)
