GameStop Says PS4 is Outselling Xbox One Because of Xbox One X

4.1
A recent financial earnings call between GameStop executives and investors revealed that the PlayStation 4 is currently outperforming the Xbox One through sales, but that apparently has a lot to do with the upcoming Xbox One X.

During the conference call, GameStop's higher-ups detailed how the company's been doing in the second quarter for the year. It was reported recently that the overall earnings were a bit disappointing and were down from last year's second quarter, but the GameStop also went into detail on more topic such as how the individual consoles were performing.

Overall, the three major players of Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have all made meaningful contributions to GameStop's sales through different console releases and strong performances in general.

"Sony has also been strong this year and we just started taking preorders for Microsoft's Xbox One X, which launches in the fall," GameStop CEO Paul Raines said. "In addition, we saw a very high demand this week for Nintendo's SNES Classic."

But according to Robert Lloyd, the CFO of GameStop, some of the companies have been performing just a bit better than others in the console wars.

"Pre-owned sales declined 7.5% during the quarter, within our expected range of down mid-single-digits for the full year," Lloyd said during the call. "In both new and pre-owned, we're seeing underperformance in Xbox One versus PS4, which we believe is due to the coming Xbox One X launch."

While the PlayStation 4 may be beating the Xbox One at the moment in terms of pre-owned and new sales, the last part of Lloyd's statement about the Xbox One X is important to keep in mind as a factor in the ongoing console wars. Xbox fans might not be buying the Xbox One as much during the recent quarter compared to the PlayStation 4, but they could very well be holding out for the Xbox One X.

A statement made later during the call from GameStop's COO indicated as much when the officer said that they are "pleased with the initial consumer response to this powerful new console" after the Xbox One X preorders became available.

The Xbox One X is scheduled to release on Nov. 7 for $499.

Dusk I've been telling all you Xbox fanboys that PlayStation isn't as bad as you're making it.

You shut your mouth !

We shall see after the X launches

They may be doing good now but they don't seem to be bothered about anyhing such as Cross-Play and Backwards Compat... it will hurt them in the long run.
