Microsoft Is Actually Talking To Sony To Make CrossPlay Happen

4.4
There’s been a lot of talk as of late about developers who want to make cross-play possible between platforms. To some extent, they’ve done it, as a number of titles support cross-play between Xbox consoles and PC. But Sony is still being a stickler, indicating that it just can’t be done without compromising the security of its players.

Microsoft isn’t giving up, though. Speaking with GameReactor, the head of Xbox Games Marketing, Aaron Greenberg, has explained that the company has actually reached out to its main competitor to see if it can find a way to make cross-platform gaming work. After all, it’s a feature that all the fans want, and it sounds like everyone is on board with the idea…but Sony.

Greenberg noted that the company has high hopes with the discussion. “Absolutely, yeah. We’re talking to Sony [about cross-play], we do partner with them on Minecraft and of course we would like to enable them to be part of that; one community, to unite gamers. So we’re talking to them and we’re hopeful that they’ll be supportive of it.”

That said, Sony has been known to be quite against the idea in the past – and for the lamest of reasons. But hopefully, with Microsoft actually involved, things could actually get somewhere.

Mojang recently introduced a Better Together update for Minecraft that enables cross-platform play across the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, which is set to launch sometime this fall. When attempting to get Sony on board, it noted that “we are still in discussions with Sony about PlayStation (cross-play) and have nothing to confirm. We would love to work with Sony to bring players on PlayStation 4 into this ecosystem as well.”

One can only hope that Sony figures out how beneficial a feature cross-play is with games like Rocket League and Minecraft and relents a little bit, but the company has been quite protective with its tech, ever since the infamous PSN hack of 2011. We’ll have to see if Microsoft can relate to them and explain just how great it’d work. In the meantime, hey, at least Nintendo is on board, right?

Its all down to that head guy some of things he's said about this is so stupid and what he said about backwards compatibility blew my mind... Sony need to get rid before moving forward if they don't they'll loose out on the long run.

Would be a great step forward for both consoles.

They're stupid to not accept something like this, THIS doesn't come down to being bewtter or competition you're stupid to think that... it brings the community together allowing people who play xbox one or PS4, to play with friends who're on another console on certain games...

To be honest microsoft and Sony should just join forces lol consoles are dying anyways and it would be cool to play with everyone regardless of what console you're on and PC
