Some of Destiny 2’s most exciting new content is reportedly gated off

Nearly all of Destiny 2‘s non-competitive content reportedly starts locked off until players beat the majority of the game’s story campaign.

According to recent Destiny 2 coverage by Edge Magazine, the game’s free-roam Patrols and cooperative Strike missions won’t be available until players progress through approximately two-thirds of the game’s entire story campaign. Edge editors reportedly “[didn’t] even noticed their absence” until the game notified them, so the story might be good enough to keep one’s exclusive attention all the way through.

Edge details how the campaign continues on after the events of the console beta’s story mission, Homecoming, but fans should be warned that spoilers lie in wait. For those unconcerned with such things, Reddit user aslak1899 helpfully includes Edge’s story breakdown in the same post as the information above.

The story campaign likely makes up a good chunk of the 80-plus missions and activities Edge Magazine claims to be in the game. Hopefully it doesn’t take too long to unlock Patrols, as a variety of interesting new gameplay opportunities were recently detailed for the feature, such as Lost Sectors and Flashpoint events.

In addition to content restrictions and story details, the Reddit post also includes an Edge interview covering weapon loadouts and ability cooldowns with game director Luke Smith. From the interview, fans learned that the revised weapon loadouts in Destiny 2 will more greatly incentivize players to coordinate their weapon loadouts with their squad in order to cover all their tactical bases.

Destiny 2 is slated to launch September 6th on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with a PC release date of October 24th.

kittyderpy This is pretty much how it was in the first game.

This is one of the factors I hate about Destiny.

Echo I think this is the wrong way to go about it if they want to enforce such a thing.
I think Rockstar done it right by delaying online by a month so people could play single player. Not making it a race to complete single player for the simple facts of

Some people like to take their time and if they care so much about campaign why would they want players to cut corners and rush through it ?

I've personally always liked playing the campaign in a game before I even took it online or to the multiplayer.

Probably why I didn't like destiny 1. I take forever to finish stories.

I mean it's not unlike the original destiny. All of the fun stuff came after the campaign and was locked until you finished the story.
