Guerrilla Games isn’t sure if it’ll ever make another Killzone game

4.5
Killzone developer Guerrilla Games says it’s too soon to know whether it’s done with the shooter series just yet, meaning there’s no guarantee it will ever see another sequel.

Guerrilla Games managing director and co-founder Hermen Hulst recently discussed the studio’s future with the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, serving as a teaser for his keynote at the upcoming D.I.C.E Europe 2017 summit. Hulst talked much about the new direction the studio has taken with the launch of this year’s Horizon Zero Dawn, and how Guerrilla handled the transition from first-person shooters to open-world action games.

At one point in the conversation, Hulst was asked if Killzone fans should be “worried about the company’s focus going with the new IP.” Hulst explained that it is simply too early to say if the studio will ever jump back into Killzone.

I get asked that question a lot through Twitter and other social media channels. It’s really heartwarming to hear that there’s such a strong appetite from the loyal Killzone fanbase. It’s a franchise and universe that we still love with a passion at Guerrilla. It hasn’t been easy doing something so completely different. Whether or not we’ve put a permanent period behind the series, it’s too early to make announcements on that. All I can say is that we’ve always loved the Killzone universe and the Killzone series, and we still do. We share that passion for the game with a lot of our fans.

Fans can get a good idea of what’s in store for Hulst’s D.I.C.E. Europe 2017 keynote by checking out the full interview on the official AIAS website. D.I.C.E. Europe 2017 will run from September 10th to September 12th in Cascais, Portugal.

Hulst’s comment aligns with a similarly vague sentiment he gave about the future of Killzone last year. We may see the shooter rise up once more, but for now, Guerrilla Games is assuredly hard at work getting out the first expansion for Horizon Zero Dawn, The Frozen Wilds, slated to arrive November 7th.

Killzone 2 and 3 had awesome stories and Shadowfall wasn't half bad either. I'd love them to make another game in the series.

Killzone is pretty cool, wonder if it's a player base problem causing them to make this decision. This game was the one that made me buy a ps3.

I always enjoyed the killzone games. I would like to see another one but if it don't happen I won't be too upset.
