Just when you thought you had seen the best possible Kinect hack, something like this comes along to lengthen your search. The people over at UC Berkeley's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences have created an unmanned aerial vehicle that can navigate through environments and avoid obstacles using Microsoft's motion sensing device. The creators of this robot attached a Kinect sensor on top, which, in their words "delivers a point cloud to the on-board computer. Consensus algorithm fits a planar model to the points on the floor, and this planar model is fed into the controller as the sensed altitude."

Didn't understand that? Either did we! But thanks to common sense, we've been able to figure out that the Kinect sensor attached to the robot allows it to create a map of its surroundings, allowing it to move around intelligently & avoid obstacles. for a video click readmore

These hacks for Kinect are ten times cooler then what Microsoft sells it to do. They could have endless possibilities if they actually try to utilize this thing. Kinect COULD be revolutionary.

looks frigging amazing - some of the Kinect Hardware mods are getting unreal - they need to leech the technology into other devices :D
