Analyst Says Xbox One X's Problem Is Price, Not A Lack Of Games

4.3
While Xbox One X preorders are still nowhere to be seen, it's given players and professionals plenty of time to think over the positives and negatives of the upcoming half-step console that hopes to bring next-level gaming quality. One analyst says that the factor that'll keep gamers away from the Xbox One X isn't related to a lack of attractive games, but rather has to do with the price tag for the console.

Well-known tech analyst Michael Pachter fielded several questions from fans in one of his recent "Pachter Factor" episodes as part of his YouTube series, and while he talked about quite a few gaming elements from Super Mario Odyssey to PC gamers, much of the later part of the video was devoted to why the Xbox One X won't sell well.

"The people who are saying it's not going to sell well because of lack of games – it plays all Xbox games," Pachter said, refuting the initial claim made in a question that was asked. "There are tons of games for it. We can argue about whether they're going to have 4K features in them not. All the new ones will, the developers are putting them in. So that's BS."

Instead, Pachter said that the price will be the console's downfall. For the power that it's packing, $500 may not seem like a bad price for some consumers, but Pachter says that price doesn't look nearly as attractive when placed side-by-side with the current Xbox One S and PlayStation's consoles.

“I think it won’t sell so well because it cost twice as much as PlayStation 4,” Pachter continued. “I mean, I think that’s the easy answer. And, you know, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One S are nominally are priced at $299, and they’re pretty regularly discounted to $249, and they are almost always bundled with something. So the $299 version, you kind of have to be a moron to pay $299 for a console now and not get a piece of software for free which does have a perceived value of 50 bucks."

Pachter took the explanation a bit further by saying that those who work for their money and don't have a great deal of disposable income simply aren't going to opt for a console that could cost $250 when considering sales for the Xbox One S and its PlayStation competitors.

"The question is: 'Who in their right mind is buying an Xbox One X?' And the answer is: The same guy who buys a Porsche instead of a BMW. The guys who have Porsches are the guys who have too much money. It doesn't seem like it's that much more expensive, and they just do it, because they can."

There's still some time before the Nov. 7 release of the Xbox One X, so we'll have to wait and see if Pachter and other analysts and naysayers change their tune as the we approach the release.

Not too worried about the price more so about 4k, I don't really care if it's 4k I just don't want 30fps games anymore. Sometimes the fps drops to what feels like 20-25fps, would prefer to see 60fps become a very common thing for consoles before going 4k.

I do think its still quite expensive, like over double the price of the Xbox one s, that's just crazy, however im still gonna get one lol.

While true about the price, them seemingly not caring about fps bothers me. They seem to be more worried about 4K than frames, and I think that shouldn't be the case. I don't have a 4K TV and just want the games to run better. Having to download extra stuff for these enhancements when you don't even have a 4K TV is also an issue in my opinion. I was excited for it, until I had no reason to be. May as well hold out until I need a new console.

I find the price really reasonable. $650 here. It was $600 day one xbox one and people bought them fine.
Not to mention that ps3 was $1000 when it was new in here.

At the end of the day, they aren't aiming to replace all xbox's with it, it's just for people that want that bit more.

If I was planning to spend that much on a gaming system, I would much rather get a PC.
That simple

A pc would be better for the price that you would ultimately pay... you have so much more for your pc then this console .

You need a 4k tv also to get what you pay for when you get the 1X, They cost more than the console. Altogether you're spending over $1000 The price isin't the worst but i'd rather spend it on a PC

Price ain't a problem for me. Too many indie games is the issue for me.

Cyimking Um... the Xbox One was $499 at launch and it sold well. Same as the PS4. The problem with the Xbox One X is that it requires a mid range 4k HDR tv, which starts out around $800.

If you watched the interview you would know that a 4k tv isn't mandatory, you can still use this on a HD tv and can pick them up for literally £150 from Argos lol

Let me add that they are working with other tv manufactures to work a deal for a 4k Tv bundle that comes with the xbox one x for a cheaper value.

For the hardware is it really that expensive? People are always going to pay it whether it's an exclusive group or not.
