Analyst predicts an Xbox One X failure in the near future

4
The launch of Microsoft’s Xbox One X console is still a few months out and people are already weighing in on whether they think it will succeed or not. Someone who thinks it might not do so well is analyst, Michael Pachter, who suspects that the $500 price tag could be an issue for consumers.

Something Pachter fails to acknowledge though is that while the Xbox One X will be selling for a higher price than the Xbox One S, it’ll actually be retailing for the same price as the original Xbox One when it launched a few years ago (though it was also bundled with the Kinect sensor). The price isn’t actually that high especially when it’s compared to the cost of building a gaming PC with similar specs and/or the price of an HDR 4K Blu-ray player which can retail between $150 and $400 depending on the brand. There’s also the fact that the Xbox One X does more than offer 4K graphics in video games, it will also make them load faster and run smoother, something a 4K television set isn’t needed to experience.

“An Xbox One X costs as much as an Xbox One S and PS4 Slim combined,” Pachter states. “So if you don’t have an Xbox One yet, any kind, why would you buy a One X instead of a One S, and a PS4 to go with it too? I just don’t get it. I don’t think they are doing themselves any favour at this price point. I know they are selling the appeal of 4K, but let’s be real, probably fewer than 10% of US households have a 4KTV, and certainly way less than that in any other developed country. So who is waiting for this? Next year, maybe around the end of 2017, we’ll probably be closer to 20% US households, and 10% for the rest of the world. And by the end of 2018, we’ll probably be at 35% and 20% respectively, and by 2019, we’ll probably be at 50% and 30%. So yes, it’s a more relevant purchase down the line, but… at $500, if I had only that money in my pocket, and I had to choose between an Xbox One X and a 4KTV, I wold buy a 4K TV. So, they’re only appealing to people who have $1100, because they have to buy a TV as well. This is the same problem Oculus faced. I really think the Xbox One X will not do well.”

Despite problems it will face I still think it'll be the NO#1 console.

Meowers Sounds like mostly poor people complaining. Especially those who are older and embarrassed to ask their parents for a console for christmas.

That is the only group really that have a problem with the console and having to get a 4K TV but just need people to get better at saving, its not very hard.

thats what I'm saying. .. I own a 4k tv and want the best possible console so....im buying one cause I have the means and it's what I'm looking for....all these ppl talking abt the price tag arent the crowd that Microsoft is aiming for....they said time and time again....this is a premium product for a premium consumer

Personally, I'm really happy with the price for what you get, and yeah I get you can get a PC for the same price maybe a bit cheaper and will run better but the thing is though I already have a PC and without Friends, it's not all that cracked up to be which is why I use my Xbox more. I don't think this console will be a failure and well if it is I still have faith that Xbox will try to have the problem(s) fixed as soon as possible.
Also, it's not like people are being forced into buying the Xbox One X, the X is for people who are looking for a premium experience and still want to be able to play with friends or randoms who may not have the newer consoles.

Its good value if you ask me

I think it's decent value tbh, It will do good everyone know's but will it live up to Microsoft's expectations ?

xGSxCoach They already schemed the 500$ at launch of the one. I hope it tanks.

This is not "scheming" in this case though, they are selling these things with a borderline profit if any profit is to be made. If they sell it any cheaper, then the cost of production will exceed the price point. Didn't you read anything about the system?

Don't forget that the PS3 once sold for 5-600 dollars.....

The Xbox One was valued at $500 when it first came out... Has it been a failure? No. The only real impact would be that the Xbox One is still a thing and not many people would want to spend another $500 if they just got the Xbox One. The Xbox One X is going to be a powerful machine and whoever really wants it, will get it no matter the cost or they'll wait for the price to go down. Simple.
