Activision will 'never' charge for Call of Duty multiplayer, Hirshberg says

4.6
"Are we going to be charging for multiplayer? The answer is no," Activision's Eric Hirshberg, CEO of the Publishing division, told IndustryGamers in what we could only hope was a Stuart Smalley staring-in-the-mirror moment. "The experience you have out of the box, connecting with the online community to play Call of Duty is absolutely integral to the experience, and we'll never charge for that. It's not going to be something we'll attempt to monetize; it's part of the package."

As if his point wasn't clear, Hirshberg further insisted that he could say "unequivocally" that Activision will "never, ever charge for the multiplayer." Earlier this month, statements from both Hirshberg and CFO Thomas Tippl hinted at vague plans to better monetize the franchise next year with more digital content, which in turn renewed speculation about the long-considered Call of Duty subscription model.

eastcoastm0dzwebscom I don't believe it would have been the right thing to do. If that thought that they didn't make enough money without the subscription, their sale would go through the ground. Nobody wold pay. As it is, no offense Treyarch and I know I'm going to hated on, but, I'm kind of already sick of Black Ops. I think Call of Duty 4 was the best out of the Call of Duties. I think because everybody was caught of guard because, the previous Call of Duties were not as customizable as Call of Duty 4. Sometimes, the simpler the better. Bringing me back on topic, if Call of Duty started to charge to go online, I would dump that game and find a new one. There are so many cheap games out their that nobody really recognizes, that COULD be better than Black Ops.

your saying the same exact thing what im saying. im kinda of sickened with black ops multiplayer now because how advance it is. like dont give us a shuvle full of food, give it to use one spoon at a time and intime we will tend to love it. and cod points was good, but it takes the fun out of prestiging and leveling up. the main part i loved multiplayer and how exciting it is to start all over and unlock everything, but know we just have to buy a gun we unlock and then have everything we want for it. i say that every call of duty before Modern Warfare 2 was excellent. older games are the best. nuff said.

Sorry, with the crappy ass servers the game has? They could have put in Dedicated servers, better host migration, and P2P Voice chat for this game that made millions of dollars. Then, maybe I would take this into consideration.
