Activision will 'never' charge for Call of Duty multiplayer, Hirshberg says

4.6
"Are we going to be charging for multiplayer? The answer is no," Activision's Eric Hirshberg, CEO of the Publishing division, told IndustryGamers in what we could only hope was a Stuart Smalley staring-in-the-mirror moment. "The experience you have out of the box, connecting with the online community to play Call of Duty is absolutely integral to the experience, and we'll never charge for that. It's not going to be something we'll attempt to monetize; it's part of the package."

As if his point wasn't clear, Hirshberg further insisted that he could say "unequivocally" that Activision will "never, ever charge for the multiplayer." Earlier this month, statements from both Hirshberg and CFO Thomas Tippl hinted at vague plans to better monetize the franchise next year with more digital content, which in turn renewed speculation about the long-considered Call of Duty subscription model.

Soo paying for extra's like extra guns, maps, characters and killstreaks still hasn't been ruled out. And knowing Activision are just as greedy as Microsoft dont rule this out until we hear otherwise

Even though there are a ton of people out there who would pay for it, they would still lose 90 percent of the people who play.

I don't believe it would have been the right thing to do. If that thought that they didn't make enough money without the subscription, their sale would go through the ground. Nobody wold pay. As it is, no offense Treyarch and I know I'm going to hated on, but, I'm kind of already sick of Black Ops. I think Call of Duty 4 was the best out of the Call of Duties. I think because everybody was caught of guard because, the previous Call of Duties were not as customizable as Call of Duty 4. Sometimes, the simpler the better. Bringing me back on topic, if Call of Duty started to charge to go online, I would dump that game and find a new one. There are so many cheap games out their that nobody really recognizes, that COULD be better than Black Ops.

They are charging Xbox players for the multiplayer with the price hike for live.
Your Wrong Xbox LIVE Doesn't Have Anything to do with Call of Duty Multiplayer the price hick of $10.00 was for all the new service and many more things Microsoft is giving us we get good service we pay for that service and 12 months of Gold for the price of 1 game isn't that bad considering the stuff LIVE has to offer and they need to get paid for all that new stuff nothing is free in life

This was pretty obvious and the only thing that made anyone think otherwise was that asshole Patcher who doesn't know what the **** he's talking about.
