A new weapon in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was patched almost immediately after its launch due to a glitch that made it the single-most effective gun in the history of warfare.

The new weapon, titled Proteus, is a unique hybrid firearm that can be switched between sniper rifle and shotgun firing modes depending on the preferred engagement. The weapon was intended to be lethal, but the version that was implemented in the game was far more lethal than anyone bargained for. As seen in the video below by YouTuber XboxDVR, the weapon instantly kills up to three enemies anywhere in the player’s field of view when fired from the hip


According to the developers, the root of the issue was a target assist enabled for the weapon. Proteus could fire three sniper bullets at once, allowing up to three unlucky souls to be locked on by the gun’s bugged out targeting. The gun was expediently patched approximately 24 hours after it showed up, although a few fans are actually requesting its return in a more official capacity for use in custom game modes.

In other Infinite Warfare news, the shooter’s new Absolution expansion was recently announced. Coming out first for PlayStation 4 on July 6th, Absolution brings with it four new multiplayer maps, plus the new Attack of the Radioactive Thing! Zombies experience.
