Michael Condrey, co-founder of Call of Duty: WWII developer Sledgehammer Games, recently expanded on the shooter’s Supply Drop system in a Reddit AMA, but his response is open for interpretation.

When asked if Supply Drops in Call of Duty: WWII would offer weapon variants, Sledgehammer Games’ co-founder confirmed that weapon and gear variants would be cosmetic only.

“Yes. All weapon variants and gear variants in Call of Duty: WWII supply drops are cosmetic only, so there are no stat-based variants in play,” Condrey wrote. “We’re also offering players Collections and Collection Bounties, giving a direct path for our community to earn items through all modes of MP and Headquarters play.”

While some took this to mean that WWII would do away with the habit of more recent Call of Duty games granting players superior weaponry through random drops, that isn’t exactly what Condrey said. Condrey claimed that variants will be only cosmetic, but this still leaves open the possibility for Supply Drops to offer new weapons outside the multiplayer’s base selection.

It is unclear if Condrey is being purposefully specific or unintentionally vague, but hopefully the developers clarify the Supply Drop situation before launch. Condrey recently conveyed some more direct information on the game’s multiplayer in a developer breakdown of the shooter’s multiplayer trailer.

Call of Duty: WWII is slated to launch November 3rd on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC
