Xbox One X Won’t Lead To New Systems Every Year Says Microsoft

3.9
For nearly four decades gaming consoles have been sold on longevity and affordability – if you buy a new console, you know you’ll get around five years of entertainment out of it, without breaking the bank. Or, at least, that’s how things used to be.

This generation both Sony and Microsoft have bucked tradition, introducing the powered-up “half-step” PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X at a premium price. These new machines can do some cool things, but some gamers worry they may mark the death of the traditional console lifecycle.

Well, Xbox director of product management Albert Penello insists that’s not the case. According to him, the Xbox One X launch will be handled with the utmost of care, so as not to “break” the console business…

“We’ve had eight console generations since 1977, and it’s always worked one way. We’re introducing a new way and we’ve got to think through every part, from the developer, to the customer, to naming, to messaging make sure that we respect what’s awesome about consoles when we introduce this idea.

We’re not doing different packages or names and we didn’t do a new controller – those were all very thoughtful things about trying to ease customers into this new idea. I don’t want to break consoles, I love console gaming. I don’t want to go to a new console system every year either, I don’t think anybody wants to do that, but who knows what kind of new technologies people are going to think up.”

Echo Nothing is more annoying than saving and forking out hundred's for a new console to hear a better one is out in a year or 2. Hopefully X1X come's out and is very alive for a number of years before people upgrade again. No X1X slim just focus on the one console pls.

Take a look this way 2013 was the original xbox one release, fast forward about 3 years later and the xbox one s comes out, the s was a way of a refresh, offering more internal storage, moving away from the large power brick offering 4k blu ray and streaming support & in a smaller package. I was needed. Now from that fast forward to today where its just months before the xbox one x release and you got to understand that the x isn't just a small refresh, it's for the enthusiast level xbox fans. It allows to stay on console but take benefit of 4k, allowing similar performance to a computer, without moving to pc, the gpu in this has about the same teraflops as a rx480/580. It should last for a good while for anyone wanting to invest in one.

The slim was made to basically replace the Xbox One and the X.B.O.X is just their upgraded version. I wouldn't expect to see another console next year.

This console is good news for console gamers, quality is everything. I remember back when I had my 360 phat. I played on that until it could take no more. 6 years later I finally upgraded.

Ofcourse not... they shouldn't be needed.

Good, they should focus more on console exclusives now.

The X made me decide I would never support Microsoft again as far as buying a console. Pc upgrades only. Too many exclusives and letdown from console gen

Seeing how powerful this console is, I don't think they need to worry about putting a new console out soon after this one.

Considering how powerful it is and that it'll be able to do 4K games on games that the devs want it should be fine for a while without needing to buy another version of it.
