Red Dead Redemption 2 May Support Cross-Play on PS4, Xbox One

4.2
Red Dead Redemption 2 may not have made an appearance at E3 2017, but the event has managed to spawn a big rumor about the game’s online multiplayer component. The latest is that Rockstar has recently been looking into cross-platform play support across the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the upcoming western game.

According to multiple sources who spoke to Comicbook.com, discussions regarding cross-platform play for Red Dead Redemption 2 initially surfaced back in May and these talks have again come up during the recently-concluded E3 event. While this cross-platform play rumor should be taken with a big grain of salt for now, the site states that its sources are reputable and have revealed correct information in the past regarding various Red Dead Redemption 2 announcements.

Talks about cross-platform play across PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for the upcoming western title are still in the early stages, and it is not yet known how well these discussions between Rockstar, Sony, and Microsoft are progressing. However, while cross-play would be a welcome feature for the fan base, there is a possibility that this rumor may remain as nothing more than a rumor based on Sony’s current stance on cross-platform play.

One of the big stories to come out of E3 2017 was Sony’s opposition to cross-platform play for Minecraft and cross-play in general, stating that while the feature isn’t off the table, no active talks are underway. Sony’s response has proved to be controversial within the community, as it has denied developers the opportunity to implement cross-play options between the three major consoles currently available, the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. In fact, Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently shared his thoughts on the issue, saying that while he disagrees with Sony’s reasons behind rejecting cross-play, the door remains open at Microsoft for this possibility.

Sony’s stance will certainly put some doubt in these rumored cross-platform play discussions for Red Dead Redemption, and these talks could ultimately result in nothing. It remains to be seen whether these Red Dead Redemption 2 cross-platform play rumors prove true, but until Rockstar confirms or denies anything, players will simply have to explore the wild west within their own PlayStation or Xbox communities when the highly-anticipated game launches in 2018.

Sony hates the idea of cross play, I don't think they will jump on this amazing idea.

This would be cool but i doubt it as sony keep refusing.

I highly doubt this. Sony just doesn't want cross platform to happen. Each time it's offered they turn it down. But who knows

As @Rui said; Sony are the one's that are a bit iffy on the whole cross platform idea. Hopefully Sony pull their heads out of their arses we could see cross platform for more games

As always Microsoft are always open for "Cross Platform" for Xbox However i can see playstation as always not allowing this to happen.
