Why Red Dead Redemption 2 was delayed

4.7
Take-Two Interactive claims the recent delay of Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn’t matter as long as the game meets the quality fans are expecting.

Speaking during the publisher’s recent investors call, CEO Strauss Zelnick explained why the quality of the game comes before its launch window, even claiming that he “[doesn’t] think the launch window really matters.”

“And obviously,” Zelnick continued, “Red Dead Redemption went out in May and was an extraordinarily successful title. Consumers are consuming entertainment year round. Now they don’t stop in the summer months. And we believe that if you give people an extraordinary experience, they will show up for it.”

Zelnick’s mention of “summer months” could be cause for concern that the game may be pushed into summer. The game was proposed to be coming out next spring, so hopefully this was an indirect side note, or Zelnick considers May to be the summer time.

As for the reason behind the delay , Zelnick would not cite any specific development issues, simply stating (via Gamespot) that more time is necessary to deliver the best game possible.

We have not run into particular issues. We are building a new game from the ground up for the first time for new-generation consoles. And the pressure that we put on ourselves to deliver excellence and to delight consumers is extraordinary.

We want to make sure that the appropriate time is taken to do the very best job we can and I that’s what consumers expect of Rockstar games and that’s what Rockstar games typically delivers. So we support emphatically the label’s decision and we are utterly confident that it will prove in time to be wise first and foremost creatively and artistically, economically as well.

Whatever Red Dead Redemption 2‘s release date ends up being, we know the game isn’t launching until at least April 1st, 2018. Fans shouldn’t expect to have their Red Dead hunger satiated at E3 2017 either, as the publisher has confirmed that the game won’t appear at the show.

Doesn't bother me one bit. Let them focus on the game and not the plethora of questions that people will have that they, by NDA, cannot disclose.

Not too upset by this, just let them crack on making the game better.
