Call of Duty WWII: Sledgehammer Games Details The Game’s War Mode

4.4
Call of Duty: World War 2 looks like a bunch of things the series has needed for a while now- a breath of fresh air. It’s ironic that it looks to be coming in the form of a game that’s going back to the series’ roots, but it definitely feels like WWII will be the sort of game that actually tries new things and takes the series to places it hasn’t been before, or places it hasn’t been for a long time.

One of the way it might be doing that is with the War Mode, which has caught the attention of a number of people with its concept, in that it will be a series of set piece moments rather than a full-fledged narrative that shows the push-and-pull conflicts during the Second World War.

In an interview with GamesRadar, when Sledgehammer co-founder Michael Condrey was asked about this mode, he went into quite a bit of detail, agreeing with the description of “asymmetrical, narratively led” mode.

“So the collision of Axis versus Allies over strategic objectives, right?” Condrey said. “Which if you think about it largely describes what World War 2 was – it was about taking ground, and attacking and defending, right? This is all just illustrative, but for the Allies maybe it’s ‘push through the hedgerows, take the hill – destroy the radio tower and then take out the 88s?’

“From the German perspective,” he continued, “it would be ‘hold the line at the hedgerows, if you lose the line pull back to the barn, and if you lose the barn, pull back to the radio tower – if you lose the radio tower, defend the 88s’ right? And so you have this push-pull of these real true collisions of Axis versus Allies and it’s really powerful.”

When asked if these would be a connected story in their own right, Condrey said that they would instead be “a series of these objective-driven conflicts.” It definitely sounds interesting. Hopefully we’ll get more details on this stuff, among other things, soon enough. Maybe at E3? Seems likely.

So hyped for this game, was a big fan of Call Of Duty back in the day and slowy drifted away due to the game just going to crap and getting modded like mad, kinda the reason why i became a modder just to bring some fun back into the game and have a laugh so im hoping this new cod brings back those good memories like the cod4, waw and mw2 days, already pre ordered

This isn't a new gamemode, it was in World at War and was also called War then.

I like the idea of them adding in more modes, just gives us more to do when we get bored of classic multiplayer.

By the looks of thing's they're doing stuff properly and giving the players what they want. They can still mess it up tho. The last COD game i'll ever buy if it goes bad.
