It’s been a busy month for Activision ahead of E3, as the company gave fans a first look at both of its highly anticipated shooters, Destiny 2 and Call of Duty: WW2. New to Destiny 2 is a PC version, which offers gamers enhanced technical features such as an uncapped framerate, 4K support, and to everyone’s surprise, is exclusively tied to Blizzard’s online service, Battle.Net.

Naturally, with the news that a non-Blizzard title is joining the online service, many wondered if other Activision products would end up there as well such as the aforementioned Call of Duty: WW2. According to Blizzard, this won’t be a common thing going forward.

In a new blog post, Blizzard clarified the Battle.Net news saying that the company’s focus on supporting non-Blizzard games is solely on Destiny 2. The company doesn’t have any current or long-term plans in the future to support third-party games with Battle.net such as Call of Duty: WW2. Considering the high standards Blizzard sets for its games, adding Destiny 2 to the Battle.Net roster is something the company didn’t take lightly.

Switching over to the newly rebranded BlizzardApp means players will also gain access to many of the platform’s exclusive features like being able to use Blizzard Balance to purchase Destiny 2. Social features commonly associated with games like Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, and other Blizzard products, are going to be fully integrated with Destiny 2 as well. This means players using BlizzardApp will be able to chat, form parties, and find friends as they would from any other existing Blizzard game.

It’s important to us to maintain our quality standards for any experience or service we’re putting in front of our players, which represents a big investment of time and effort on our part, so this is not something we’re jumping into lightly.

While both games appear to be heading down different paths when it comes to PC distribution, Call of Duty: WW2 may not be following suit with regards to Nintendo as well. Bungie confirmed that it doesn’t have any plans to bring Destiny 2 to the Switch, but according to a cryptic Tweet from the development studio Beenox, Call of Duty: WW2 just might. Beenox has experience porting Acitvision games to other consoles, and with the platform availability subject to change, Nintendo Switch owners shouldn’t lose hope just yet.
