Battlefield 1 And FIFA 17 Reach Record Breaking Player Count

3.9
A few years ago, players were very discontent with the direction of DICE’s Battlefield series, as they got their hands on Battlefield 4 and discovered a lackluster sequel. Between the bad direction of the single player campaign and the non-working multiplayer servers, the follow-up to Battlefield 3 didn’t do Electronic Arts any favors.

Fast forward to late 2016, when the company released Battlefield 1 alongside the team at DICE, and created a whirlwind of positive praise from the game, both from critics and players alike. It was almost like a complete 180 from what the publisher had released before – and it appears to have paid off in the long run as well.

The company revealed its preliminary reports for the fourth fiscal quarter period ending March 31, 2017, and with it, it revealed that the mega-sequel (well, prequel, kinda) managed to generate a large audience. The game has amassed more than 19 million players, which indicates a 50 percent boost over Battlefield 4 around the same time period. That’s really something.

On top of that, EA also confirmed that FIFA 17 saw more growth than ever for that particular franchise, indicating that it’s gotten more than 21 million players since its release, with more than 12 million players partaking in The Journey story mode that made its debut in the series last year.

Electronic Arts reported $3.034 billion in digital sales overall, though that only indicates 61 percent of total net sales – a jump of 20 percent over the previous year. It’s also done very well in the mobile division, with Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes leading the charge. That particular game managed to generate 162 minutes a day of average gameplay time, a high one for a mobile release.

Finally, the publisher confirmed that it was the top game publisher for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the Western world for the period, thanks to strong titles like Battlefield 1 and its sports releases.

I knew BF1 would max sales there's no WW1 games out there that's the same play style as Battlefield.

GibbityTree Overwatch blows both of them out of the water in terms of player base. Over 40 MILLION across all platforms!!! Now that's something.

Probably because Overwatches majority of players still have puberty spots, where as battlefield has an age requirement...

Call of Duty has an age requirement but have you met the player base?

I laughed a bit to hard at this.

Back on topic, this is a respectable number after BF4, then again it wasn't a terrible game..

CHP Honestly wasn't too impressed by these two games, maybe cause i just played them at a friends house and not on my own system. hopefully the next few games that come out will draw me back into the gaming community.

No I agree. BF1 lost me pretty quickly. The game is fun and looks nice but overall feels like it had a lot of material missing/ hidden behind paywalls and future DLC. Whereas BF4 had lots of guns and attachments and camos, BF1 just felt like less. Everyone uses the prototype automatic guns for the most part which historically are not even in the actual war and the bayonet charge is one of the downright silliest thing the series has ever incorporated. The game also feels way more fast-paced. BF1 feels like an early CoD title where the gameplay is fast, the content is somewhat lacking, and the playerbase is try-hards using only the best guns.
