Following a string of releases since the series debuted in 2007, Ubisoft’s massively popular Assassin’s Creed series took a notable break last year after 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate to refine the series’ gameplay, with a leaked image giving a first glance at the series’ return later this year.

New information has been released on this year’s Assassin’s Creed title from a leaked image (above) and several reports indicating that the game will be known as Assassin’s Creed: Origins, following coverage from Eurogamer and WWG corroborating the information.

While no hard confirmations have been provided from Ubisoft (and will probably be unlikely given the proximity to E3), a leaked image for the rumored Assassin’s Creed title from Reddit (via user “shoutouttoashraf”) showcases a bow-wielding (and shield-bearing) main character rowing a boat down the rivers of Egypt.

The screenshot confirms what was first indicated by a reports last year, as the next Assassin’s Creed title has been heavily implied to take place in the setting of ancient Egyptian history, and appears to be a prequel to the previous series’ installments. The title was previously reported to be known as Assassin’s Creed: Empire, though the new information seems to show the title (most likely) will be changed.

Following the release of the image and reports of the next title, Ubisoft’s Ashraf Ismail provided his own commentary on Twitter that, while brief, pokes some fun at the leak. Ismail previously worked on the series’ 2013 installment, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and is the game director of “an unannounced project,” which is fairly safe to assume might be the next Assassin’s Creed title.
