Report: Could This Be Project Scorpio’s Official Name?

4.6
We’ve been hearing all sorts of reports that Microsoft is planning some big reveal for the Project Scorpio this week, as well as its forthcoming racing simulator Forza Motorsport 7. However, some new details have been leaked, indicating that we could have a new official name for the hardware.

According to the newest rumor, however, it appears that we could be getting this reveal as soon as this Thursday, with Microsoft not only showcasing a number of titles for the forthcoming system, but also the components, so it can demonstrate the power that the system is capable of.

But perhaps even more interesting is that Microsoft could already have a name for the hardware, since it likely isn’t going to release with the name Project Scorpio. Early reports indicate that it could release with the official name being the Xbox One X. That’s actually pretty logical, since Microsoft is already promoting the Xbox One S since its release last year, with its more compact build and 4K-capable hardware.

That said, though, the name could bring confusion between the two products, with the S and the X likely to be mixed when it comes to talking about the systems. But it would fit in the lineage of Microsoft naming systems and sticking by its “X” moniker, something it’s done since the release of the original Xbox back in 2000, followed by the Xbox 360 and, of course, the Xbox One.

This story is just a rumor, mind you, and we won’t know the official word until it’s unveiled this week, if that’s still happening. For the time being, though, it sounds like Microsoft is planning out its reveal very carefully, not only boasting what kind of technology the hardware is capable of, but also the right games to take advantage of it, both first party – like Crackdown and Forza Motorsport 7 – and third-party – including potential releases like Madden NFL 18 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

I actually like the name to be scorpo, I did not agree with the console being called X. It would be weird in my opinion.

Mitochondria Scorpio sounds better to be fair. X is eh, why call it a name the whole project and completely rename it at the end?

I agree X just sounds silly. Scorpio sounds like a well devolped console. Dont get me wrong if it did end up getting named to X it still would be an amazing console.

Really hope the name hasent changed upon reading recent articles.

Just like how they started with "360" then moved to "one"? now the X? Not very good names.

I'd rather it just stay as Xbox Scorpio, sounds way better than Xbox X.

VanDykeBrown Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox 360 Elite, Xbox 360 Slim, Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X.
PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 2 Slim, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 3 Slim, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Slim, PlayStation 4 Pro.
Seems about the same

Skates Microsoft is the hipster version of consoles. Instead of going in numerical order like Sony, they have to be unique and different.

If you want to go that in depth, still not really the same. I was referring to: Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox X. As oppose to: Playstation, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4. See what I mean now? Microsoft can do what ever they want I'm not complaining, just something I noticed.

Moms will go in and be like "Can I get Xbox one S?" cuz they'll think it stands for Scorpio after their kids beg them to get it haha

I prefer Scorpio more but does the name really matter? What it's capable of is what it's really about.
