GameStop Impressed With Xbox One Scorpio- ‘Gamer Friendly, Powerful Console’

4.7
GameStop has noted that its physical product sales are declining, which has all led to a massive hit in its earnings- however, the retailer revealed in an investor call that it has cards to play still, pointing to PlayStation VR, Xbox One Scorpio, and the Nintendo Switch as the three primary drivers it sees going forward.

“In physical gaming there have been cyclical declines without question, but we have very strong cards to play in Nintendo Switch, Sony [PlayStation] VR, and Microsoft [Xbox] Scorpio,” GameStop’s CEO Paul Raines stated. Apparently, GameStop is placing a lot of faith in Scorpio, and its ability to drive sales.

“Finally, we’re impressed with [the] Microsoft Scorpio product,” Chief Operating Officer Tony Bartel said, adding that it is a ‘gamer friendly console’ that will drive revenues when it launches this Holiday season. “Unfortunately we can’t talk about a lot other than what’s known”, he said. “The Scorpio is a very powerful system that’s really made for 4K. We see it [as] a very gaming centric, very, very powerful unit and so we do believe that there will be some great games that are made for this.”

It sounds like they may not know more than we do- but what they do know, they seem to be optimistic about. GameStop’s optimism for the Nintendo Switch proved to be well founded in the end- doubtless they are hoping the same will hold true for the Xbox Scorpio as well.

Ilcamorrista They know as much as us. Sales could decrease or increase once the console is released. Regladress of physical or download games.

they're saying that people are moving away from real gaming and switching into VR. Which sucks and is hella expensive.

GameStop is impressed, but most people are not impressed by GameStop. Does that mean the credibility is null and void?

Halo The only thing that could possibly hurt the sales is the price of the console, we seen that with the Xbox One. Even though this new console from Microsoft is supposed to be a "high-end console" for gamers, which pretty much says its going to be pricey, hopefully it's not so much that we all can't afford it, hah.

I will probably buy Scorpio on day one as long as it's not over $1,000. I honestly can't* see it being over $650-700. Considering Original Xbox was I think $399, Xbox 360 was 400 as well, Xbox one was $500? I think the max hey could get away with, without turning people away would be around $500-700. At least that's how I look at it.

I'm guessing like $600-$700 as well. I'll sell my Xbox One S and PS4 to put towards the Scorpio. Hopefully that will cover a chunk of it plus start putting money away each pay check so I'm not flat broke when the console launches xD

WHat u going to do when xbox one scorpio s v2 comes out :troll:

I'm guessing it'll be at least 700. Phil has already stated it's a luxury console. If you buy a 4K console, you'll want to play it on a 4K tv too, and those aren't cheap themselves. The whole setup will cost you a lot in total. We'll just have to see where it goes, yeah? I'm getting one either way, though. Cheap or expensive.

As for the Article, Gamestop will fail eventually. They are the Blockbuster of early 2000's. Netflix is rolling in, digital and from your home. Get the analogy? Gamestop is past its prime, but I'm sure they will push through for a bit on just consoles and stuff and those handful of people who still prefer disks to show off(me included)
