Today, Psyonix announced that a new free mode is coming to Rocket League later this month on March 22nd, called Dropshot.

According to Psyonix, Dropshot is a new take on Rocket League gameplay that introduces breakables floors and an electrified ball, all within the confines of a new hexagonal Arena, called Core 707. Rather than traditional Rocket League, where you push the ball into your opponent’s goal, you objective is to destroy panels on the opposing team’s floor, and score goals through those gaps.

Psyonix says that the new mode is all about Damage, and that along with the usual stats of Goals, Assists, and Saves, Dropshot introduces Damage as a statistic. How it works is that the more damage you do, the more floor panels break, and the easier it is to score a goal. Each panel can be hit by a ball twice: the first fit activates the panel, while the second breaks it.

The new ball is said to contain three different phases, each more powerful than the last. Depending on which phase the ball is, determines how much damage is done when the ball smashes into the floor panels.The second and third phases are activated by multiple Battle-Car hits, so the longer the ball stays off the ground, the more powerful it becomes. While the first phase of the new ball only damages one tile upon impact, the second and third phases can damage up to seven and 19 panels, respectively.

Along with Dropshot, other changes and additions are also coming on the 22nd, including: new achievements/trophies, painted Bodies and Rocket Trails, an Esports content button, the end of Competitive Season 3, a new Skill Tier hierarchy, and more.

Dropshot also notably adds a new Battle-Car called Endo, which is available exclusively as a limited-drop in the new Turbo Crate. You can also snag special painted versions of the Endo and its Tachyon Rocket Trailer via the Turbo Crate.
