Barely anything will carry over to Destiny 2

4.4
Bungie revealed today that to move forward with a full sequel to Destiny, the developer would be scrapping all of your loot and progress from the first game—including items purchased via microtransactions.

The news broke in a recent post from the Destiny Dev Team on Bungie.net.

“Sequels represent the start of a new adventure for every player, with new worlds to explore, new stories to tell, new powers to acquire, new loot to earn, and much more,” the post says. “This led us to a decision that would enable us to serve both the game and the player’s best interests: Destiny 1 power, possessions, and Eververse-related items and currency will not carry forward.”

So, if you spent hours grinding to get the best armor from Kings Fall or even—back in the day—the Vault of Glass, don’t expect those to be with you come Destiny 2. That being said, not everything will be wiped clean.

“We know that, just like us, you have grown fond of the Guardians you’ve created, so we do plan to preserve your character personalization,” the post reads. “We are going to recognize the dedication and passion you’ve shown for this world. Specifically, the class, race, gender, face, hair, and marking selections for all characters that have achieved Level 20 and completed the Black Garden story mission will carry forward.”

What seems the most confusing is that even emotes from the Eververse Trading Co. will not carry over to the new game. One would assume that these items, purchased with real-world currency, would classify as personalization items, as they in no way affect mechanics of the future game (unless emotes are done away with completely).

“[Your previously earned items] will, however, remain accessible to you in Destiny 1,” read the post, trying to put a silver lining on the whole do-over.

What’s disconcerting is that such a statement had to be said. Yet, with Bungie’s history of taking things away from those who do not move ahead (several game modes were removed from vanilla Destiny if gamers did not get the new expansions), we guess it had to.

Destiny 2 is rumored for a 2017 release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Inventories, weapons etc that seems reasonable. Perhaps a legacy set you can earn in D2 possibly. Emotes and shit can be left behind it's all trash and can easily be left behind. Hopefully you'll be able to edit your existing characters upon creation or something like that.

This is a little disappointing to hear.
I do feel like they should have a community vote to have select Exotic engrams adding into Destiny 2.
It wouldn't cost them much, and It would allow for those that have those engrams to have something special in the new game.

People who complain about carrying over doesn't make much sense. It would be just as bad as late players to destiny in the grinding periods. Wouldn't exactly be fair in any way to the common player. Bringing over your guardian is enough.

Don't want a carry over anyway :)

I played for ages, dont want it to carry over tbh. I like the fact that they carry the aesthetics of our character over but other than that i'm glad that they are making everyone start fresh. I just hope that they dont screw up the storyline on this one as Destiny 1's story was a plie of poo lol.

I played this for so many hours. And tbh i don't need things to be carried over. Hopefully it's a fresh game with fresh stats etc. Then it won't matter about things carrying over. If you enjoyed the game then this shouldn't matter.

Oasis Hahahahahahahahahahaha

Hahahahahaha

Haha

Now I've got that out of my system, the reason they won't let you carry that stuff over is to draw new players into D2. No one wants to play against someone with 100 + hours under their hat. I cut my losses in Destiny a lifetime ago, I don't agree with buying the same 'full' game in the same generation cycle just for some half hearted add ons. And yes I've played all the dlc.

The Destiny hardcore will still buy D2 no matter what they give or take away from you. All the best to them.

Whats the point in bringing out a second series to the game where the first one is pointless?

I would cry if I was playing it, grinding and sweating for it to be taken away in the next series? Naah.

Perfect ! More reason to grind Destiny 2. Looking forward to see how they can hold onto the player base
