Switch day-one update brings eShop, Virtual Console coming at a later date

4.8
When Nintendo Switch launches next week, users will need to download a day-one system update which will add the eShop and other functions. But not Virtual Console.

Luckily, the download will occur in the background on Switch, so there’s no need to do some chores while it updates.

Along with adding the eShop, the ability to link Nintendo accounts will also go live with the update. People who already have funds in their accounts on other Nintendo devices will be able to access them via shared wallet that works on Nintendo Switch as well.

So once you link your Nintendo Network ID and Nintendo Account, link the account to the Switch system and you’ll be good to go. Now, all purchases made on your eShop account can be re-download as your account is no longer tied to a particular system.

After visiting Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch for the first time, you will be able to purchase digital games for Switch via Nintendo.com. Once purchased through the website, they can be automatically to your Switch system at home or on the go using Wi-Fi.

Three Switch games releasing on the eShop at launch on March 3 are: FAST RMX from Shin’en Multimedia, Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment and Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. These are just three of the more than 60 indie games coming to the eShop this year. Nintendo will host a “Nindies” presentation on some of the titles next week on February 28.

A news feature will also offer updates about the latest additions to eShop, and information about upcoming games and other Nintendo updates.

Virtual Console games will not be available at launch. Nintendo didn’t provide a reason, only stating that “more information” would be available in the future.

The day-one system update will also add multiplayer functionality, image sharing with social networks and the option to connect Switch to public hotspots.

A virtual reality console? Or was a tripping when I was reading that. That would be awesome if it was true can you imagine getting that for a gift when You were 12.

Why does Nintendo have such a problem with releasing a complete console? I just feel all advertised features of the console (virtual console) should be part of the day one release.
