Call Of Duty 2017 Confirmed to Feature “Traditional Combat” Again

4.8
During Activision’s financial conference call for calendar year 2016, the company confirmed that 2017’s Call of Duty game is being developed by Sledgehammer Games, that brought us Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in 2014.

While this will probably surprise no one, Activision promised to take the franchise “back to its roots,” with traditional combat “taking once again center stage.”

According to Activision, this is exciting both for the Call of Duty community and the developers at Sledgehammer Games.

The company explained that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was a “high quality, innovative game,” but admitted that the game underperformed compared to expectations, and the space setting “just didn’t resonate” with a portion of the audience.

We heard that, while Activision saw the risks in the setting, they had a a passionate and committed studio at work on it, and believed that it’s important to consider the passion of developers in deciding what content to create.

While the game wasn’t the success Activision planned, the company underlined the fact that it allowed to protect a “core tenet of its culture,” which is empowering development teams to pursue opportunities that they’re passionate about.

“Providing an environment that recognizes this passion is a critical component of our success, and the process of learning from our mistakes is what makes our company special.”

They're just going to copy the Battlefield era.

tO0t I personally enjoy the Exo gameplay, I don't find modern warfare remastered even remotely as good as infinite warfare, Everyone thinks boots on the ground is going to be the best thing for the series but hopefully there's some other twist otherwise it's going to be the same thing we've all played about one hundred thousand times in the past. Also everybody should stop crying about supply drops, it adds a new aspect to the game and with the addition of salvage it doesn't make getting these rewards impossible without spending money.

Exo movement for me was bearable in BO3 as it was the best iteration, as much as we complained about Ghosts, I would take a game like that anyday if the standard of IW is what we would of had. Personally think IW is a train wreck of a game. MWR is fun when playing with friends, IW is not. That is the difference for me.

Extremely happy to hear of this change. The Exo-phase COD has gone through is not one that I have enjoyed to say the least.

I would normally hope for a WaW 2, but given that Sledgehammer is the Developer, I don't think this would come up for another year. Nonetheless, I hope they go the old school route as Battleifeld 1 has, as it is an era that people enjoy playing with.

Now, if only they would get rid of the supply drops...

Until they add supply drops and then ruin another game....

That means no exo movement, no thrust. No space warefare. I want gun on gun, man on man action. No freakin' robots either.

Finally, no exo bull crap

Blah blah blah consider the passion of developers blah blah blah empowering development teams. How about, put every development decision to a community vote and implement it in the game. Then see how well it sells. Activision basically blamed the devs for its poor sales when what probably happened was the Activision elite pushed for space. Any cod fan either playing or making the game could tell you it wasn't right for the franchise. Expect cod 2017 to be gritty and bundled (at an extra cost) with something like mw2 because they won't take the risk only releasing the game itself. Like 2016 they need something to entice gamers back. Even if it's full of lies.

I have a feeling that the next cod will be boots on the ground but will have supply drops OR something similar to supply drops
