Skate 4 was apparently too good to be true. Information out of a recent Electronic Arts earnings call reveals that the skating game is not in development, meaning the company’s community manager behind our excitement earlier this week must a sadistic sense of humor.

The community manager in question is Daniel Lingen, who recently tweeted the hashtag #skate4. No context was offered behind the tweet, but this didn’t stop the internet from blowing up with speculation of an impending sequel.

Unfortunately, EA’s Andrew Wilson confirmed during the recent earnings call that EA is “not presently making Skate 4” and the game “will not be in Fiscal Year 18.” Wilson’s statement was in response to an inquiry about unannounced games, both new and remastered, that could be coming from the publisher this year or next. While Wilson wouldn’t discuss any of these potential games during the call, Skate 4 was the only title he specifically denied.
