Phil Spencer confirms Project Scorpio will run games at native 4K

4.5
The man in charge of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has taken to his home turf of Twitter to confirm native 4K gaming on the upcoming Project Scorpio.

When inquired about the new system’s capacity for native 4K gaming, Spencer’s response was unambiguously definitive.

This cleared up some confusion on the console side, and it was confirmed late last year that all first-party Microsoft titles launching in the “Scorpio time frame” will natively render at 4K. When a fan recently requested more information on the native 4K, Spencer expressed that he would rather the games simply speak for themselves.

Other recent Twitter posts by Spencer revealed that the system is coming along nicely and the executive is confident in its progress.

The Xbox One’s Project Scorpio doesn’t have an official release date, but it is expected to launch sometime in late 2017. Some of the system’s hardware specs are still under wraps, although a recent leak may offer some insight.

Katsumi I'm interested in how Native 4K will effect the overall quality of gameplay & expansiveness of game worlds. I'm hoping it doesn't have too heavy of an effect on framerates.

Agreed. The specs given shouldn't be able to produce a native 4k image without slowing down frame rates ridiculously. The current consoles can produce a 4k still image but that doesn't mean its playable. The specs don't leave much to the imagination of if games will be truly playable at 4k resolution. (not to mention the whole extra problem of why have 4k resolution when everyone want 60+ fps instead of stupidly high resolutions)

Like everything it'll eventually go down in value. I remember when the concept of owning a HDTV was unthinkable.
