Blu-ray BD-R and BD-RE discs now work on both Xbox One and Xbox One S

4.7
Both Xbox One and Xbox One S users can now run recorded Blu-ray media discs on their systems, thanks to a new update.

Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra, who is director of program management for Xbox confirmed the news this week

This means that thanks to the update, current-gen Xbox users can now play their recordable (BR-D) and recordable erasable Blu-ray discs (BD-RE).

The update should be live in your regions now, so fire up your Xbox One S or standard Xbox One.

This must mean recorded blu ray discs cause Xbox one could already play regular blu ray movies.

Tele It's confusing how they do all this hardware stuff with just an update, how can they change what your Xbox can read with an online update?

I was thinking the same thing. It's honestly kinda weird. It's like your Xbox is already capable of doing it they just have to give it permission to do it

Is this meaning like people buy blu ray discs and then burn something on it and can play it? If so I'm surprised they allowed this considering the entire deal with hotswapping on the 360 and the mods it allowed, seems like it opens a portal to modding possibilities

I only use discs sometimes but is pretty nice for when I do use them.
