Steam beta update adds DualShock 4 support

4.7
During its Steam Dev Days conference last month, Valve surprised everyone with a couple of reveals. Once of which was announcing that Steam will natively support the DualShock 4.

Thanks to the most recent Steam update, you can now get the client to recognise the PS4 controller without the need for third-party drivers. The update is currently in beta, but anyone can opt-in to download it.

There’s a number of other changes made in the update, too, such as the addition of default templates for the controller. You can enable the controller in Big Picture settings. When you do, it’ll have access to the same sort of customisation options available to Steam Controllers.

This native API support means you’ll be able to map the trackpad, gyro, as well as buttons to keyboard, mouse, or x-input outputs. Big Picture now also supports controller glyphs.

You can get the update now opting-into the beta from Steam under the Account section.

Deluge- I thought we could use our xbox controllers for this

You can but some people prefer Playstation controllers over Xbox controllers as some prefer Xbox over Playstation.

Nice to see the feature Steam. It would be nice to see the XBL Controller side of things to have this feature as well as for Sony.

Nice addition for steam. Would rather just use an Xb1 controller though.

Grimlock not going to lie I already thought you can use dualshocks for steam. guess not :P

No you're right. You could have used them before. THIS update means you can map the buttons now and etc on the dualshock.
Hopefully I we'll see the 360 controller get these features soon. Love using mine for Dark Souls and fighting games
