PS4 Pro Will Support SATA 3.0 Hard Drives

4.8
It’s time to get your hard drives ready, folks- it looks like Sony didn’t cheap out on at least one thing with the upcoming PlayStation 4 Pro. In an interview with 4Gamer, Sony Interactive Entertainment Engineering Division chief Masayasu Ito confirmed that the upcoming PS4 Pro would use the SATA 3.0 interface for hard drive support.

This means that the rate of data transfer on the hard drive will be increased from 3.0 Gbit/s to 6.0 Gbit/s, which is double. It means, also, that loading times, installation times, and encoding and decoding times for videos, will drop significantly. All in all, it should lead to some significant improvements in the PS4 experience with the PS4 Pro.

The PS4 Pro is due out in November. It will be billed and sold as the higher end PS4 model. Consumers looking for a cheaper entry into the PS4 ecosystem can still go out and purchase a PS4 Slim for themselves.

Why don't they just make consoles like PC's where you can simple just go to the store to upgrade the hardware?

I dont see how this changes things. Kind of a waste. Its not a computer, but you are doing a good job at trying to compare.

Hard to decide on the slim or pro, I feel like the Pro is a bit too pricey.
