Microsoft: PS4 Pro’s 4.2 TFLOPs Not Enough To Do “True” 4K Gaming

4.5
The Xbox One Scorpio is technically a superior machine when compared to the PS4 Pro. Microsoft’s newest machine comes packed with 6Tflops of GPU, a superior CPU and improved memory putting it head and shoulders above the Sony’s PS4 Pro. Now we already know that Sony’s machine cannot do native 4K for AAA games but that is not stopping Microsoft’s Albert Penello from boasting Scorpio’s technical prowess.

“There are just a lot of asterisks in their [Sony’s] marketing around 4K, which is interesting because when we thought about what spec we wanted for Scorpio, we were very clear we wanted developers to take their Xbox One engines and render them in native, true 4K. That was why we picked the number, that’s why we have the memory bandwidth we have, that’s why we have the teraflops we have, because it’s what we heard from game developers was required to achieve native 4K,” he said in an interview with EuroGamer.

“Now, similarly to what Sony said, that doesn’t mean I’m going to require developers to do this. They’re going to be able to decide to take that six teraflops of power and do what they think is best for their game. But I know that 4.2 teraflops is not enough to do true 4K. So, I feel like our product aspired a little bit higher, and we will have fewer asterisks around the 4K experiences we deliver on our box,” he further added.

It’s basically a repeat of what we saw during the early years of the current gen console cycle. However Microsoft and Sony have switched places and it’s the former who is riding on the hype of a more powerful console.

Faux25 consoles will never be able to do true 4k due to apus being the weakest of the weak not bashing any console since i own the ps4 and xboner s(which isnt really that great) but microsoft is just wanting to take advantage over every little detail atleast both console would do 4k even if its not native 4k

Are you a games developer? No. The developers acutally asked for the console to be built with the pieces and power they are going to show off, so clearly, it is built for 4K. Microsoft even said it themselves and you can see a couple of devs in the announcement trailer from separate publishers and what-not.

The last time I checked, you couldn't get an APU with that much power on the consumer market. The console is built with AMD behind closed doors with newer stuff than what is on the market. It will probably be a combo of Vega with a boosted CPU.

Again when I present the argument of running BF4 on 512MB of RAM or GTA V on a 5XXMHz GPU, people seem shocked. That's because PC can't get even remotely close to that performance.

"PC can't get that kind of performance" You're completely dismissing the fact that there are literally thousands if not millions of possible hardware combinations to make a game for on PC. No shit you're not gonna get that kind of performance, it literally isn't possible. But suddenly when you have to hard-tune it for a specific set of hardware you get good performance? No shit, Sherlock

Halo Okay we know this new console from Microsoft is something huge and is top of the line, but the thing we're all wondering about is the price. 4.2 might not be enough but if MS' console is like $600-$700 then people won't care about what's inside and will just go with the PS4 Pro

I'd wait until the Scorpio is affordable than waste money on the Pro, if it can't do 4k then why waste money on extra specs that's just gonna do 1080p as well

If one is 400 and the other is 5-6 and does true 4k i'd choose the more expensive one. We got a long time to save up lol
