Xbox Live is faster and more reliable than PSN, Microsoft says

In a promotional campaign that feels like someone mixed up two sets of cue cards, here’s a study and some famous athletes.

Xbox Live is faster and more reliable than the PlayStation Network, Microsoft has claimed.

The platform holder points to a study by IHS Markit which measured the reliability, speed and overall quality of the two networks across five of the most popular multiplayer titles.

Under the heading of reliability, it’s faster to get from first logging in to your Xbox One console to being online, and from log in to game servers, than an equivalent experience on PS4 according to this study. Part of this conclusion is based on it taking one button press to log into Xbox Live, but two steps for the PSN, which probably depends on how you set up your console, but okay.

More compellingly, the study found Xbox Live out-performed PSN across three metrics – network log in reliability, game server log in reliability and uninterrupted play. PSN out-performed Xbox Live in terms of matchmaking reliability.

In terms of speed, the study looked at lag and latency, matchmaking, game-load times, login service and friend interactions. Again, it ruled Xbox Live was better in all areas bar matchmaking.

Having taken out both sub-categories, Xbox Live unsurprisingly triumphed in terms of overall quality too, with PSN again winning through on matchmaking. It’s worthwhile clicking through to the link above to read the methodology before you get too mad about all this, though.

When I had my PS4 It was so reliable. Im not sure about now but in my eyes it was better than Xbox Live

This has been known for years. Xbox live has always been all around better though the ps4 hardware is more capable. ups and downs to each.

Ps4 fan boys Triggered.xbox is the way to go, I can't talk for current gets because I only had a ps4 for a few days until my video snagged up, but for the 360 and ps3 you lag put of parties because you have a bad nat type, if the host don't have open and you don't you'll lag or not be able to connect, in my opinion I think xbox is better

So literally an internal test done by themselves. This is the equivalent of Apple saying their phone is the best in the world compared to others.
Even funnier is that PSN still won in matchmaking ability. So sure you can log in to XBL with one less button push (seriously, thats the requirement to be "better" smh), but you can play online faster and better on PSN because you can match easier to other people and connections making your game searching time much less.

Get out of here with your fanboy shit TTG. This is ridiculous. Trying to turn an article in a 180 when XBL won in two very small and useless categories.

I might Microsoft did announce they'd upgrade the Xbox Live server by 300,000 servers when the console released. Haven't ever heard 1 thing from Sony about it.

I still remember when PSN went down for an entire month back in like 2010/11/12 around there. That was so funny. All the little Sony fanboys raging constantly in school because nothing was being done about it. PSN is trash compared to XBL.

Also heard " PSN free games " are rented aswell. You NEED a subscription to play them else they're not playable. Lelelelele.

They're rented in the sense that you can't play them without an active subscription. If you stop paying for PS+ you lose access to the games until you re-subscribe. Games with Gold isn't like that, as long as you were gold when you downloaded the game, that game is yours forever -- gold membership or not.
