No Man’s Sky's servers will be reset ahead of launch

4.5
Those who bought No Man’s Sky early will find their progress wiped. Hello Games will be resetting the server ahead of launch along with a day one patch.

Studio programmer Harry Denholm made the announcement on Twitter. According to Denholm, progress made in the game will not be cleared, "just discovery online storage," so character leveling will not be affected.

Sony has stated otherwise claiming local saved data will be cleared, because it will not be compatible with the first patch.

For those users who have obtained early copies of No Man’s Sky, their save progress will not carry over to the final game after the universe has been regenerated for launch," reads the statement provided to TechBuffalo’s Joey Davidson.

The server reset is mainly to make way for a big update which will be released on the games release day, the servers must be reset and gamesaves deleted for users to be able to have the update which changes and adds lots of things, from higher detail to tweaks on weapons, damage, health, creatures and the planets.

Nick I hate when beta's do this. Let the players keep their progress. I hate replaying the same things over again.

Yea because it was totally a beta, lmao, some of y'all so uneducated.

Same, the servers should be wiped since the only people who have played it have spent who knows how much just to play it a week early. There was never a beta for this game.

Glad to see their resetting the servers.

Honestly can't wait to pick up this game.

I think it's good that servers get reset before launch. Makes it fair.

Yeah I agree. It's bad for the players who worked hard on the beta and then they lose their progress.

Was there even a beta? I'm pretty sure they are doing this because of all the people that spent extra money to recieve the game a couple days in advanced. Like the guy who spent over 1200 USD for an extra week of playing. He said he'd already made it to the center of the Uni, found the best mining spot and had already been grinding and made a fortune.

Oh well. People should have expected it. Very few big games allow people to continue after their Betas.
