What you use and why? I'm thinking of switching to DP for gaming!

Literally doesn't matter.

Either / or will work assuming both support the refresh rate that you wish to use.

DisplayPort 2 is the way forward with UHBR (Ultra-High Bit Rate) standards. HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4 cover everything on the market now. The next generation of graphics cards and high-end monitors will support and require DP 2.0-2.1. I haven't seen anything about the next HDMI revision. It's probably too late.

At the time of posting, only the 7900 XTX has a DP 2.1 port with UHBR 13.5 (54 Gbps) and only a few high-end monitors support UHBR.

This will become important. You will need to understand the cable length restrictions, your system's bandwidth requirements, how DSC (Display Stream Compression) is a factor, what the UHBR speed certifications mean, and which ports you have.

But for now, HDMI and DP are interchangeable. Any difference you see is in your head or because your settings are wrong.
