Edited to add: money (USD) isn't really as big a deal as making sure anything upgraded is compatible with other components. I re-read the stickied notice and saw I left that out. I'll update the post with the power supply number the moment I get home!
Hello, and nice to meet you! I recently got into PC gaming. I did a lot of research on what to look for in a decent PC for both gaming and animating, and managed to find something prebuilt that works for me at a very decent cost, considering the lack of decently priced graphics cards at the moment. However, I wanted to upgrade the SSD card (and memory eventually, but will get there when I get there, lol). I don't know more than the basics of what each component does, so some lingo might go over my head. I apologize in advance if I ask a 'dumb' or seemingly common sense type of question. I'm not entirely sure what's compatible with my system or if I'll need to upgrade anything else first just to be able to run it. This is how the prebuild stands currently: DELL Vostro 5880 running Windows 10 pro: - 10th Gen Intel core i7- 10700 (8 core, 16M cache, 2.9 to 4.8ghz) - 16Gb 1x16GB U-DIMM DDR4 2933MHz (and recently an added 8gb 1x8GB U-DIMM DDR4 2666 from my brother's PC after he upgraded). - Nvidia GEFORCE 2060 RTX 6GB GDDR6 - 512GB m.2 2230 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive (specs say it could support a 2280 with the Intel Optane Module, if that's helpful.) -2TB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive (room for two more hard drives) - I'm not sure about the power supply. I can't find exact information for this part on my specs sheet online. I think it's 460W, but could be 260W. I'll have to double check once I get home, if this could be an issue to any upgrading. My concern is that the setup and specs guide states the computer can only go up to a 512 gb SSD drive (as well as 64GB of memory, though I think that's due to it only having two UDIMM slots, though please correct if I'm wrong). I'm not exactly computer savvy, so I have no idea why there is a cap. Which is why I'm asking if I actually need to upgrade something else before I even think about a 1TB SSD card. If I'm truly only limited to 512GB SSD, is there a better one out there other than the Dell model? And if I'm not limited, is the Samsung Pro/Plus card a decent one, or is there better bang for the proverbial buck? The reason I have for upgrading the SSD is performance, mostly. I use the hard drive for most storage including my steam library, but I've read that it's better to have the 1TB SSD for gaming. If my reasoning is incorrect, I'll appreciate someone saying so! Just trying to get the most out of this prebuilt for the next few years or until the graphics card prices return to normal... (Also, if anyone is actually reading this wall of text lol, anyone know if there is a real difference between a 1x32gb memory or a 32gb thats 2x16? My setup guide states it can handle either/or, but I really don't know if one is better than the other and the info out there is a bit conflicting...and totally goes over my head. This computer is mainly used for gaming and animating/digital drawing/a little 3d rendering as a fun past time, if that info is helpful!) |

| you would be just fine with the 1x its up to you what you want in it for preference. as far as you not knowing if a part is compatible with your build just go on part checker and out your parts in there to see |
