For at least a few years, I have been downloading MP4 videos to my computer from youtube. I would then load them on to my thumbdrive. Then I would put my thumbdrive into my PS3 and watch the videos. But now most of the files I have on my thumbdrive don't show on the PS3. But they do on my computers. I don't know why this should have stopped working. I tried a virus scan. But that did nothing. Though it seems to me that if there was some virus issue, they wouldn't show on my computer either.

I tried buying a supposedly refurbished PS3. (Unfortunately, from a suck ass gaming store that doesn't do refunds. Only store credit) This PS3 had the same problem. Has anybody ever had this problem? If you have and found the solution, please tell me about it. Trying to get any help from any sony or playstation website is a joke.

If you reformat your drive on your computer that probably reverted it to NTFS, which the PS3 can't read. If that's the case you'd need to download some software to format it back to fat32. You can also go to whatever section you want (eg. music for mp3's)and try to press triangle on the USB and display all.

Thanks for the reply. I did recently get a new refurbished laptop. But I don't think that's the problem. I tried to do the same thing with my old laptop. It didn't work. But as I said, it did before. I just can't imagine what could have started this problem. After all, a PS3 is basically just a kind of computer. And with my laptops, there are no problems. What I am trying to do right now is to reset my PS3 to the factory condition. Which is re-formatting it. The process it says takes 3 hours and forty five minutes. Maybe that will fix the problem. But with my luck, probably not.

There is one last thing I could try. I have an old desktop computer. I will buy a new thumbdrive and try to download a MP4 youtube video onto it. If that doesn't work, I guess I'm just out of luck.

Honestly I think it's the USB that's the problem, I would just buy another USB and try that. I wouldn't factory reset your console because I'm positive that's not the issue. But I wish the best of luck to you.
