My company just announced furlough today due to the economic impact from COVID-19. I have never been furloughed before. I'm sure many, many, many people has been affected by this. My wife is due during the time of my furlough. So who all has been affected and what have you done to take your mind off some of the negative things?

Unemployment insurance has been taking care of me lately. $2400 a month on top of what I got from Trump has been keeping a single guy with minimal debt on the straight and narrow but obviously everyones financial situation is different. Lots of companies are offering payment deferrals if needed, I know my bank is allowing me to defer car payments for 3 more months and just add it on the end of my lease.

Shitty situation overall but there's not a whole lot we can do about it unfortunately.

I can relate to this topic as I work for local business and they have recently decided to ask permission for all workers as it's optional (me) if I would accept the scheme to be on while being in this Corna Virus state. Every owner for a working business has to ask for permission to the employe if they would accept to go on the scheme. Where I live if you accept the scheme and you have a second income job like streaming on Twitch you can't be on the furlough system. You're entitled to make 80% of your income earnings just like if you work for a part-time job Monday to Saturday.

This is my first time applying for a furlough scheme as well I think it goes to everyone that is not working in this world state. One in four UK workers, or more than nine million people, are expected to be furloughed during the coronavirus crisis as businesses struggle to survive. Basically how it works you get asked if you want to go on the furlough scheme, then you get put on a list once you get added on the list end of next month (I could be wrong but..) that's when you get paid monthly and the wage amount depending on if you're a full time or a part-time worker. I'm sure your boss explained to you how it works well. I'm hoping she/he has as it's pretty important. Edit: It's maximum £2,500 a month if you're entitled
Through this scheme, the government will pay up to 80 per cent of people's wages, up to a maximum of £2,500 per month. Anyone working in a full time job (or on a PAYE basis) on March 19 can be furloughed. This includes people on zero hours contracts or those working flexibly. Unfortunately, it does not apply to people that might have switched jobs between the end of February and the government announcement.

Of course, if you don't accept to go on the furlough scheme you won't get paid that's simple as that really as it gets. I would accept to go on the scheme if I was you as your partner is pregnant. I'll add a few information takes so you know what furlough is all about.

What does furlough mean?
furlough means to "lay off or suspend temporarily", usually without pay. It's not a recognized term in UK employment law, although it is commonly used in the US, which is why it left many puzzled when the Chancellor used the term in his radical employment plan. Government guidance says someone is furloughed if they remain employed but are not undertaking work.

You can follow this link to learn more I've explained in my top half of this reply what my boss has informed me about and how it works. You don't need to worry as you'll get paid I understand it's a worrying part of your life as your partner is pregnant. Everything will be fine. wired.co.uk/article/uk-furlough-s...protection

It's all not that bad pal, we've all gotta get through it.
I've been furloughed for about 3 weeks now, today I had the option to return to work or continue on furlough for another 3 weeks. I know the situation isn't ideal but think of the safety of yourself and your family.
We're lucky to be still getting 80% of our wages to be sat around doing nothing mate.
Use this time wisely, be creative and productive. Your job is safe which is the most important thing.

Stay safe out ere

I enjoy how you all do what most don't. Even though this time is dark. You all show that there is still hope. I just need to grab it
