I have an i7 laptop that was worth over £1000 when released. I got it faulty for around £150 so great bargain.
The fault was just the GPU that was faulty, (probably cracked solder balls/failing chip) however the laptop also has Intergrated HD Graphics. So long story short, I got the laptop switched from the faulty gpu to the intergrated graphics and the laptop was working great. I only use it for browsing and streaming Netflix ect so I don't need the gpu anyway. The laptop has been working fine for a few months but after turning it off one night it would not turn on the next day. There charging light shows up when the charger is plugged in, then when power button is pressed the power button lights up and the fan spins for like a second the cuts out. If press the power button same thing over and over. I left it for a few hours after messing with it, then to my surprise it turned on and was working great again. Then the next day same again not powering on. I've tried everything, taken the full board out plugging one thing in at a time to try find the fault. Cleaned the ram and ram slots. Cleaned the whole board. Tried the unplugging battery holding power button ect. The board when plugged in to power is getting 19v to the board and the battery is holding charge. And I can't find anything shorted on the board. The only thing I can think of is there could be a short under the faulty gpu. Would it be possible to remove the gpu altogether from the board and remove all the solder from the pads? As mentioned I don't use the gpu so I don't need it. Will the laptop still work with intergrated graphics if I fully remove the gpu? I know this a long winded post but I'm out of ideas and ready to smash this laptop up lmao If anybody has any ideas or knows if it's possible to use the laptop with the gpu removed I would be really greatfull and of course I will +Rep any help |

| Correct me if i'm wrong @anyone but I believe it would work the same as desktop that doesn't have a graphics card (granted the processor has integrated graphics) I wouldn't see an issue with taking the gpu out. I'd do some research on it just to be on the safe side though. |

Some of the nvidia software might wig out when it notices the GPU missing but it should be fine as long as there isn't anything hardcoded into the motherboard to default to the GPU which is no longer present. |

I'm going to have another look and if I can't find an answer I'm just going to remove the gpu and see what happens. The laptop is not working as is so I have nothing to lose anyway. I will update you all if I remove the gpu and let you know the results (just in case anybody is curious haha) |

Just to update anybody that's interested, I removed the gpu but the laptop is still having the same problem.
Something else on the board must be shorting somewhere |

| Its mostlikely the faulty gpu still taking effect if i were u id remove it and put a new one it tbh |
