When I first purchased my Xbox One X (At launch), it was whisper quiet, but after a few months the fan noise started to become louder. After a year, I finally decided to replace the thermal paste with Arctic MX-4, and it was whisper quiet again for the first month or so. After 6 months the fan noise started to get loud again and eventually started overheating and shutting off when I played any games. I replaced the thermal paste again, and the fan noise went back to normal, but after about 4 months it started overheating again.

Is anyone else having this issue? For those who have replaced their thermal paste, what brand are you using? I've done several PC builds and have never run into this issue within a few months of replacing the thermal paste, so I'm not really sure what's going on here.

Here is what I would do. I would make sure the heat sync surface is flat Also make sure that it is supported and mounted properly to the heat sync and motherboard. Use artic silver 5 thermal paste. Make sure both the chip and heat sync is cleaned with rubbing alcohol.

When reassembling the motherboard back in the case make sure it is sitting properly in the case. This should resolve the issue.

If you have to take some sand paper and put it on a hard surface and sand the bottom of the heat sync make sure you keep it flat.

Hopefully this will resolve the issues. If it doesn't resolve the issue. Then I would say you have a soldering issue with the CPU/GPU. Needs reflowed

Hey Rodent-Modz, thanks for the reply! I'm always very careful when placing the heat sink onto the APU and the motherboard, and I usually clean off the APU and Heat Sink with rubbing alcohol before applying new thermal paste. However, it's still possible that things aren't aligned properly. I wasn't looking for it, but from what I remember, the heat sink surface was very flat when I was cleaning the thermal paste off of it. However, I will definitely try using Arctic Silver 5 if it's starts overheating again (I've used it in some of my PC builds in the past with great results).

Thank you again for the timely response!
