I have been slowly upgrading my gaming PC over the last few months. Just recently I upgrade my GPU from a MSI 970 4gb to a MSI 2070 super. While playing CSGO I noticed I'm still getting around the same FPS so I'm thinking the CPU needs upgraded next. I currently have a i5 4460k. Any recommendations on what I should upgrade to?

Mobo- AsRock H97M anniversary
CPU- i5 4460k
Ram- 24 Gbs

What MB are you using?

What is your price range for a new CPU?

Just for gaming?

We need to know the rest of your specs if you want us to recommend a socket upgrade.
So, what is the make and model of your case and PSU?
What CPU cooler are you using currently(Intel stock by any chance)?
Would also be handy to know your storage set-up.
What monitor(s) are you using with your system- this can absolutely affect which CPU makes most sense for you.

Budget is $350 USD?

If you just want a simple CPU upgrade, you can grab a Haswell i7 or Xeon with 4C/8T and just swap that out for your i5. Cheap and easy upgrade to double your threads, and Haswell still has pretty reasonable single-core performance compared to more modern CPU's tbh. However, a socket upgrade to AM4 with something like an R5 3600 would be a pretty damn significant upgrade, and $350USD is enough to go that route if you'd like.

Case- Corsair 570x RGB
Psu- Corsair CX650
CPU cooler- Stock. Came with the i5.
Storage- I have a few. 1TB WD HDD, 2 TB WD HDD, and a Samsung 850 250gb SSD.
Dual monitor setup. Main monitor is the Asus VG248QE (use this one for gaming). Second monitor is an AOC i2757 (use this one just to keep steam and discord up. Also helps when doing school work).

So, if you're upgrading socket, this is what I'd go for;
PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor ($179.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard ($114.99 @ B&H)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory ($72.98 @ Amazon)
Total: $367.96

It's a little over your $350 budget, but it'll be worth it IMO. If you really need it closer to $350, you can save like $10 by going with 2666MHz instead of 3600MHz but I wouldn't.

If you want to keep your motherboard and 24GB RAM, swap out the i5 for a Xeon/i7, like I said.
A Xeon E3-1230/1231 V3 or i7-4770/4790 would do nicely, and should be easy to find <$125.

If you did this, I'd use some of the remaining $200-250ish to get a new SSD- 1TB NVMe for $100 would be good;

If you dont plan on upgrading your motherboard, than an i7-4790K is a great upgrade.

Otherwise I'd upgrade your board to a Z390 and get an i7-8700K.

If you plan on upgrading mobo - switch to AMD. It's a no-brainer nowadays, grab yourself ryzen 3600 and b450 MSI board and you're all set.
