Written version:

Step 1 - Insert shift keys while on the game (not through shift website)

Step 2 - check your mail to see how many gold keys you have but don't accept them yet.

Step 3 - Go offline (xbox or playstation) through settings

Step 4 - Collect keys, exit game back to games main menu.

Step 5 - Start story up again, collect keys again & exit to games main menu again.
