It is entirely true. Especially when it comes to Arma. $800 is not the same as $600, the extra $200 can go a LONG way. Never mind 90%, I'm sure your "boy" can "run" 100% of games. That doesn't mean you'll run them at "ultra max settings" with a $600 system, but yeah sure, you'll be able to launch the games at least.

So, I would 100% be skipping the GTX 1050Ti. Just not worth buying at all IMO. RX 570 is cheaper, and better in every way.

You're also not going to want to use a TV, invest in a decent monitor. Unfortunately, this means either sacrificing performance now to get a decent monitor, or getting a 1080p60Hz monitor for now for about $80/90, and ditching it asap for something better.

This gets you a really nice 1080p144Hz monitor and a solid platform to upgrade from. You can swap out the R3 for an R5 2600/3600 at any point, and that'd be a great upgrade.

You'll also probably want to add another 8GB RAM asap. I'd actually try to get 16GB straight off the bat these days, but I've tried to fit a good monitor in this list, so that's one of the sacrifices you have to make.

and like I said, RX 570 trumps the 1050Ti but it's not going to let you max out AAA titles at anywhere near 144FPS, so you'll be settling for somewhere in the middle of 60-144FPS and/or lowering some settings.
