The official website for Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memories Doll (Violet Evergarden Gaiden: Eien to Jid Shuki Ningy), a side story to the Violet Evergarden anime, began streaming a trailer for the anime on Tuesday. The video reveals the anime's cast and previews the anime's theme song "Amy" by Minori Chihara.
Minako Kotobuki plays Isabella York, the scion to the great and noble house of York who is pessimistic about her future, and who holds no love for Violet, her new teacher. Aoi Yki plays Taylor Bartlett a girl with no family who comes to pay Violet a visit. The main cast members from the television anime are also returning for this side story. The new anime's story centers on Isabella, the heir to a noble house. She attends a school for well-groomed young women, under a "contract" with her father. To her, this beautiful place where white camelias bloom is nothing more than a prison. Having resigned all hope and expectations for her future, Isabella meets her new manners teacher, Violet Evergarden. While the anime was originally slated to screen for two weeks only, now it will screen for three weeks, from September 6 through September 26. The anime held its world premiere as planned at the AnimagiC convention in Mannheim, Germany, which ran on August 3 and 4. The AnimagiC organizers said that they continued the screening "at the express request of the studio." Haruka Fujita (series director for the television series) returned to direct the anime. Kyoto Animation is also working on a film project for Violet Evergarden that was previously announced with a January 10, 2020 opening in Japan. With the recent fire in Kyoto Animation's 1st Studio Building, it is unclear if the film will still open on that date. Kyoto Animation's 1st Studio building suffered a fire on July 18, killing 35 people and injuring 33 others. Kyoto Animation has opened an account to accept donations, which raised 620 million yen (about US$5.7 million) in its first two days, and has received a total of 965.63 million yen (about US$8.87 million) from 47,991 donations as of July 29. The company will give the funds to families of the deceased and injured victims of the fire, as well as for rebuilding. |
