Hi everyone,

I'm building a PC with the ASUS WS X299 Sage motherboard, and ran into some problems while connecting the Corsair H100i Pro cooler. The cooler requires an internal 4-pin USB header on the motherboard to function, but the motherboard doesn't seem to have such a header. The mobo does, however, have an internal USB 3.1 Gen 2 front panel connector (U31G2_E3) and a 19-pin USB 3.1 Gen 1 connector (U31G1_12). I'm not sure how to connect my 4-pin cooler connector to either of these two USB headers.

Should I buy an internal USB hub to create new USB headers where I can connect my cooler?
Or are there other USB headers on the motherboard specifically for coolers?

Thanks for all your help.
Cheers!

There shouldn't be a 4-pin. You should have two 4-pin fan headers attached to the block/pump, as well as a 3-pin. The fan headers are for the fans on the radiator. You want to plug the 3-pin connector in to CPU_OPT or CPU_FAN.

This is the CPU_OPT on the X299 Sage I think, which you should be plugging the 3-pin connector in to;

Then all you have left is the SATA connector from the pump and the USB for RGB control with Corsair Link. I think you might need one of the Corsair RGB controllers to use that though, not entirely sure.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I've already attached the two 4-pin fan headers to the block/pump, the 3-pin to the CPU_FAN header, and the SATA connection to the pump. It's the Corsair Link USB cable that's causing issues. I can't find a USB header on the motherboard - to which I can attach the USB cable to.

Are there any internal USB headers on the WS X299 Sage?

Yeah, so I'm not 100% sure on whether that needs to be connected to a USB header or a Corsair LED controller. If it's just a normal USB header, then yes you should have a few of those on your X299 WS Sage- a USB 3.0 header for the front panel, and I'd imagine a high end board like that will have a USB 3.1 Gen 2 header as well. However, if it is a USB header you need for Corsair Link on the H100i, it will likely be a USB 2.0 header you will need, which I'm not sure if there is one on the X299WS Sage. If you check your motherboard's manual, there should be more details in there.

If you can't find a USB2.0 header on the mobo, you'll need to buy some sort of adapter. You have two options for this, a USB 2.0 to USB 3.0 header, which means you'll lose front panel USB 3.0's. Or, you could buy a USB 2.0 to USB Type A adapter, so you can just route the cable through the back of your case and plug it in to an actual USB port on your motherboard's I/O.
