I'm wanting to trade my iPhone 8 Plus for a iPhone XR.

My iPhone 8 Plus is mint condition, 64GB, has a case always on it, no scratches or scuffs and battery life is excellent.

I'd say hold on to your 8 plus until a new "budget" iPhone similar to the XR is released again. With your 8 plus still being in great condition and offering 98% of the same features I'd wait. However if you are able too, upgrading to the X or the XS wouldn't be a bad idea as it's a huge jump in upgrades.

Only reason I'd see a reason to upgrade to the XR from the 8+ is if you want Face ID, and no home button.

Yeah, hold onto the 8.
I don't see the point in going to the XR.
It was made as a budget phone in the era of the X being "fancier" than all these others. Wait till they release a new phone.
