Hey, so i am completely inept when it comes to computers, because im more of a console guy... But I want a newish, beefy gaming pc so that i can play a very specific type of genre that consoles dont offer. RTS. I use to play Starcraft and Warcraft with my dad and friends as a kid, and I wanna get back into RTS games. Thing is, my computer can barely run minecraft without killing itself.

A coworker of mine offered to sell me his old one for 800$. its about 1 years old and has 1200$ worth of parts.

Processor : Intel Core i5-7500 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz
Installed Memory (Ram): 8 Gb (With four open ports to use for ram)
System Type: 64 Bit operating system, x64 - based processor
Windows 10 Pro

I want to play games such as: Starcraft 2, Warcraft 3, Hearts of Iron, Iron Harvest, Total war : Warhammer, Stellaris, Etc, all on high graphics

Is it worth it, or not? Or do you need more info? Please let me know!

Thanks!

We need to know the GPU for sure

any additional parts such as CPU cooler, PSU, HDD/SSD/M.2

Also maybe ask this in the PC building forum as its more likely to yield an answer

moved to PC building form.

Also knowing the GPU/Motherboard is going to tell you for sure what price range this build is in.

We definitely need more information. Just the CPU and RAM is not enough to evaluate a system.

Is it a pre-built PC? If not, what is the make and model of the case and PSU?
What GPU is in the system?
What is the storage? HDD/SSD? Capacity?

From the sounds of it though, no that does not sound like an $800 PC, unless it has a GTX 1080 or something.

I wouldn't buy it unless for starters.

1. Does it run?
2. Can you do a benchmark on it? (open up a game you enjoy, mess with the settings to your pref. Let it sit for 30 mins and if it works after still.. and the temps, noise and all are fine. Cool.)
3. ...So does it have a hard drive or ssd? Any type of storage at all?
4. GPU? Graphics card at all? Less it's a 1070 Ti, 1080, 1080 Ti, 2060 in there I wouldn't touch it.
5. What is the PSU and how old is it?
6. Any modifications?
7. Last time it was cleaned or serviced? Dust removed, thermal paste reapplied, etc.
8. Aesthetically pleasing to you?
9. What exactly is your interest in this? There could be far better options for you.
10. Is it just the PC Case and it's internals? No keyboard, mouse, headset, monitor...cables...?
