I am looking to build a gaming PC with a budget between 700 and 800.

I have done some research, looked at some builds and watched videos. It seems I find something that might work. Here's the build:

* Motherboard: MSI B450 AMD Socket AM4 (105)
* Graphic card: Gigabyte GTX 1060 (248)
* Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 (162)
* Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 (100)
* Power supply: EVGA 600 W1 (45)
* Memory SSD: ADATA SU800 128GB (30)
* Memory HDD: Seagate BarraCuda 1TB (47)
* Case: Cooler Master MasterBox Lite 5, 4 fans included (64)

Is this setup ok? I am looking to play popular games with decent frame rates. I might record some footage too, can I with this GPU?

I was concerned with the power supply, I've no idea if this one is any good for this combination. I was initially looking at the Ryzen 5 2600X but it's a little over my buget, what does it bring more?

Also am I able to get another 2x8GB memory on that board later on?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Ivan

Where in Europe are you? Also, do you have a specific site in mind for buying components from?
What monitor(s) will you be using with this system?
What games will you be playing?

There are quite a few MSI B450 motherboards, which specific one is it you're looking at? If it has 4 DIMM slots and you're buying a 2x8GB kit of RAM, then yes you'll be able to add another 2x8GB in the future.

I wouldn't buy that PSU, there are likely better options for a similar price.

I wouldn't buy a GTX 1060, you should be able to get a GTX 1660 for a similar price.

Thank you very much for you reply.

I'm in France. I was thinking of getting the components from Amazon (and Ebay if some are missing).

I have no monitors in mind, I actually didn't think about that.

I'll be playing War Thunder mostly, also Arma 3 and possibly some Battefield games.

It's the MSI B450 Gaming Plus.

Do you have a PSU in mind, does it need to be a PC brand?

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor (162.49 @ Amazon France)
Motherboard: ASRock - B450 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard (94.94 @ Amazon France)
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory (99.99 @ Amazon France)
Storage: Crucial - BX500 480 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (59.58 @ Amazon France)
Video Card: EVGA - GeForce GTX 1660 6 GB XC ULTRA GAMING Video Card (249.89 @ TopAchat)
Case: Phanteks - Eclipse P300 Tempered Glass (Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower Case (59.90 @ Amazon France)
Power Supply: Corsair - Vengeance 500 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply (60.22 @ Amazon France)
Case Fan: be quiet! - Pure Wings 2 120 PWM 87 CFM 120mm Fan (8.99 @ Amazon France)
Total: 796.00

If you can spend the extra 20/25 euros, then the MSI B450 Tomahawk is a good mid ranged motherboard, but the AsRock B450 Pro4 is a nice budget board. You'll definitely want to get a GTX 1660 instead of a 1060. I included a much better quality PSU. Also included a nice fan since the Eclipse P300 only comes with 1. You can swap/add case fans later easily, so just the 2 is fine for now. You can get 240GB SSD's for 30-35 euros, I'd definitely just avoid 120/128GB SSD's now since they're not really worth it. I'd rather get a 480GB SSD, and add an HDD later if you want/need, but you could maybe get a 240GB SSD+1TB HDD instead if you'd prefer.

You'll want to pair this sort of system with a decent monitor. If you were going to pair it with a cheap monitor, then I'd suggest spending less on the PC itself and putting more of the budget towards a nice new monitor.

Thank you so much for your time!

* ASRock 90 AMD B450 Socket AM4 (@ 95.00)
* GeForce GTX 1660 (@ 240.00)
* AMD Ryzen 5 2600 (@ 162.00)
* Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 (@ 100.00)
* Corsair CP-9020107 (@ 60.00)
* Crucial SSD 480Go (@ 60.00)
* Cooler Master MasterBox Lite 5 (@ 65.00)

Total price comes at 782.00.

I actually found a MasterBox Lite 5 with four fans included [Minimum post requirement for links] .

I found some [Minimum post requirement for links] on Amazon (this one is at 800.00).

The closest one I could find [Minimum post requirement for links] at 930.00.
Also [Minimum post requirement for links] which comes with Windows 10, an LED display, a mouse and a keyboard

Do you know how it compares to the setup above in terms of performance and value?

You have to be careful with prebuilts. I'm not sure if Megaport is a known name but custom builds tend to have more value and that is the case here. The GTX 1660 is a bit better and newer compared to the GTX 1060 6GB. The combo with the monitor isn't bad but once again you can get a cheaper one with better quality like the Acer R240HY bidx 23.8-Inch. Another thing to watch out for in prebuilts is the power supply unit (PSU). On the Amazon page it just says 500 Watt and has no name brand with it. Buying this prebuilt can be risky as PSU's are very important for a build. PC building companies tend to skimp out on the quality of the PSU and it's one if the most important parts as it can damage your other parts if it's a faulty PSU. If you want to risk it then the combo with the monitor isn't that bad for the price.

The Eclipse P300 is a better case IMO, and the Be Quiet! fan will absolutely be better quality than those included Cooler Master fans. If you prefer the CM case though, go for it.

Terrible value. These pre-builts cut costs wherever they can, so they use cheap, shitty, low quality cases and PSUs. They also cheap out on the motherboard, in this case it uses a god awful A320 board, and they use slower RAM to save costs as well, which will affect performance with a Ryzen CPU. So that 800 euro pre-built will perform somewhat similar to a 650 euro system, but with lower quality case+PSU.

Very nice monitor, very affordable too!

I had no idea, good to know ! Thank you very much for your tips BadWoolf.

Great news for me!

I know a gaming PC shop nearby : they let you bring your components and they do the build. It doesn't tell the price on their website... maybe that's not worth the money.
I was thinking of building it on my own but someone I know advised me not to. He said if anything happens to any components while building the PC, that would be on me.

Building a PC now a days is very easy. There are many YouTube videos on this that go in depth like youtu.be/IhX0fOUYd8Q. If you follow the video you can easily build it yourself. Just make sure you're grounded so ESD isn't present. This can be done with an anti-static wrist strap or just touching the PSU every now and then. When building the PC make sure you're not on carpet but something like a hard table top. Not a necessary step but a recommended one is to test the components outside of the case before putting them in the case. Also, don't apply to much thermal paste; a little goes a long way. One of my last tips is making sure you don't have any extra stand offs installed in the case as this could short the motherboard. Basically take your time and watch some videos and you should be fine.

Updated list

  • Case [Minimum post requirement for links] @60.90

  • Fan [Minimum post requirement for links] @8.99

  • Motherboard [Minimum post requirement for links] @96.90

  • CPU [Minimum post requirement for links] @162.43

  • RAM [Minimum post requirement for links] @87.90

  • GPU [Minimum post requirement for links] @239.90

  • Storage [Minimum post requirement for links] @62.00

  • PSU [Minimum post requirement for links] @65.75

  • OS [Minimum post requirement for links] @12.99

Total is @797,76

I noticed the MSI B450 had a very similar price to the ASRock - B450 Pro4 ATX AM4, that's why I kept it in the list.
Apparently the Ryzen 2600 as thermal paste already applied to it which is nice.

Overall do you think this build will have good performances with big titles?

I was looking at another CPU: [Minimum post requirement for links] (@169.90). Is it good compared to the R5 2600?

Do you know the difference between the [Minimum post requirement for links] and [Minimum post requirement for links] . Is it just the added fan on the Ultra?

I found the AOC 24B1XH Full HD 23.8 Inch LED monitor, is that a good one for gaming?
